How much work is involved in a swap like this? How hard would it be to change the gearing back to what I had in the 1009 axles? Am I looking to have my cake and eat it too on this one?
So a '73 would be a more seamless donor? Do you think the existing doors would be modifiable, or would I want the doors off the donor truck? And if so, how well would they line up?
I am thinking about the possibility of putting the "convertible top" setup of the 1972 Blazer onto my M1009. I know my current cab would have to be cut to make this work, but would a 1972 windshield setup fit onto mine without any significant problems? Any chance the cap would fit on with no...
M1009 is a bit better as a DD, especially when it comes to highway use. I've been driving mine on a daily basis for about 6 months now. It IS a bit like using a 3lb sledge to drive nails, but it can be fun too, if you know what you're getting into. Personally, if I already had a Civic and could...
I don't know of any place that specializes in CUCV's around here. I know there is a junkyard in Billerica that is supposed to have a lot of older stuff, thats all I know about it though. :?
Thought I'd ask here rather than start another thread.... I've got an M1009, and may be grabbing some 36x12.5-16.5lt HMMWV tires in the near future. I'm running stock tire sizes and suspension right now, what sort of lift and what sort of $$$ will I need to make those tires fit under my truck?
Re: RE: Re: RE: Electrical uh-oh.
A burnt out bulb could completely immobilize the truck? That seems a little silly, maybe I'm better off bypassing that part of the wiring this way. :?
RE: Re: RE: Electrical uh-oh.
Brought the truck back to the rebuilders today. The alternators were working OUTSIDE the truck, but not in it. Turns out the regulators weren't getting any power. Rather than playing the wire-chasing game, we went with the idea of putting in new regulators that...
Re: RE: Electrical uh-oh.
The one on the passenger side alt tests ok. I tested all the ones I could SEE on the firewall... are there that I might have missed?
RE: Re: RE: Electrical uh-oh.
No answers after checking fusible links today. Took out both alternators and took them to the local rebuilders today, they told me both alternators are good. What is strange about this is that the batteries are showing 11.something volts each with the truck running...
In the process of diagnosing my blower motor's lack of power, my dad and I inadvertently ground out the battery gauge in the dash panel. My M1009 won't start now, it seems like the batteries have been draining with every start and finally gave up. I can jump it and everything will run fine...
Success! I got a good look at the radiator today and found out I had not one, but TWO leaks in the same area on the radiator. Neither one was too bad though, and it looks like a bit of soldering may have sealed them up. It's going to be a few days before I know if it's actually going to hold...
Re: RE: Radiator?
I was thinking junkyard, which is why I needed to know if anything other than the direct replacement will work. Not a lot of 6.2's sitting in the yards around here.
