Can someone give me the straight scoop on the difference between the 1008 and 1009 rear ends. Are they both the same, is one better for highway driving then the other?

I was looking to purchase a M1028 and was wondering how many holes would be left in the bed and rails if I removed the troop seats. Aside from the troop seats, is there a really big difference between the M1008 and M1028?

I have a M1009 that is in need of a new dash and tailgate. Are the dashboard covers from LMC going to do the trick or do I need a new dashboard. The original is severly cracked and brittle. Also, is an aftermarket tailgate repro ok to use or should I keep searching for a used original...
