I'm going to answer some of your questions.
I'm running a #20 button currently and it seems about right. Good power, no smoke.
For air filter I've done it a few different ways but I currently have a K&N cone mounted directly to the turbo. Seems to work fine.
I'm running 5" to a donaldson...
Try a small flat head screwdriver right into the gap where the wedge is split. Tap it in and then she will pop right out then grab a beer to celebrate your victory and repeat.
The method I've found works best is to get a small flat head screwdriver and tap it into the gap in the wedge parallel to the stud. It will break it loose and spread the wedge enough to pull it right off with the screwdriver still pinched in it. Repeat 3 more time and your done, no damage and...
I would agree with using the proper length studs and not the budd nuts. I'm sure it has worked fine for some but here is the real question, if stopped and inspected by the DOT would it pass? No. If it caused an accident and your insurance found out that it was a redneck modification, what...
When I ordered mine I brought in the original stud and the part number from here and told them what I needed. They verified everything and said the part number was corrected for what I needed and I ordered them. No part number on the 2 boxes but the length was perfect. May want to take them...
Take it to an actual allison shop, not a tranny shop that will work on them. Have the fluid and filter changed if not already done and get it checked out/adjust. You could drive 10 of these trucks and all 10 will shift differently. The allison is a quirky but solid tranny.
I used the part numbers referenced above and they work great for the HEMTT rims on my M54A2. I don't recall the source of those part numbers but it was here or IH8MUD. Are you sure you were sent the right ones? Mine came in 2 plain white boxes, no part numbers so I was a little concerned too...
Lindsey97,
There is no need to start and stop the engine as the 5 ton transfer case is synchronized unlike most civy vehicle's. It's actually much easier to shift while rolling. Turning the engine on and off is just wearing out your starter. If that's the only way it will shift then something...
I know that people have installed aftermarket (non surplus or take offs) PTOs on the M939 trucks with the allison transmission. My question is has anyone installed a PTO with the hydraulic pump mounted directly to it? It looks like a tight fit but I'm curious to see if anyone has done it...
Excellent write up! It's a good maintenance item that often gets neglected. Don't forget to switch to SCA coolant at the same time.
If anybody needs one, I have a few new 180 thermostats with gasket for the NHC 250, PM me.
Why don't you trade them for 14.00R20 tire chains? If I was closer, I'd be in for that. I'm sure there is someone near you that would be interested in a trade.
I think this is being over engineered. The dual line feeds 400hp+ engines just fine. Ours are only 240hp and could possibly be pushed very carefully to 350hp but 300hp is more realistic. I'd be willing to bet that absolutely no gain would be noticed over the standard dual fuel mod, even on a...
