I'm replacing the front rear axle of the tandem assembly and need to know how to get the equalizing beam separated from the axle. The TM describes how it comes apart and that would probably work if it hadn't been over 30 years since it was built. I'm looking for realistic ideas of separating...
Putting it under load doesn't change the noise either. I just pulled a 25,000 track loader with it and had the same noise at 25 MPH and up but it didn't sound any worse.
I got the truck jacked up yesterday and the noise is definitely coming from the front rear differential. It start at about 25 mph and continues as long as the accelerator is pushed. It immediately stops when the truck coasts. It is no different on the road than with the truck jacked up. It...
The truck shakes alot anyway but it seems that it may have a vibration that correlates to the noise. I had been driving quite a few hours plowing snow and just noticed the noise on the way back to my shop after finishing up. I was pretty tired and just wanted to park it. Up to that point the...
It definitely sounds like its coming from the rear end but only during acceleration. It sounds the same with a loaded salt spreader as it does empty. If it was doing it all the time I might think it was a tire separating based on the sound. Could a missing tooth on a ring gear make a similar...
My M917 recently developed a noise like a knock or thump that is speed sensitive and only occurs during acceleration. Its also not noticeable until I get to 30 MPH. Any ideas on what it might be? My first thought is a U joint.
I had originally drained the batteries by leaving a snow plow lift control in the wrong position that put a slow draw on the batteries over a few days that I didn't use the truck. I have charged the batteries with a 24 v charger hooked to the same battery posts the slave cables connect to. The...
My 917 which was starting and running fine a few days ago will not crank over. I have at least 24 volts at the starter and it appears to try to crank the engine over but I can barely see any movement at the crank. Any ideas? Is there an easy way to bar the engine over manually to rule out a...
I can barely feel any air coming from the defroster vents even though the fan is blowing strong when set to direct the air to the driver or passenger. Even with the driver and passenger floor discharges closed, I can hardly feel anything from the defroster. Is this normal for this style heater...
I'm working on my M917 and can't get the back-up lights or alarm to work. The switch is in the correct position and seems to work however, there is no power to either side of the switch with the transmission in reverse. Does anyone know where the transmission switch is? I thought it may be in...
OK. Will check for complete engagement. Might worn/damges gears in the PTO cause this? It doesn't make any unusual noise while engaged so I'm hoping its a linkage problem. Thanks.
Having a problem with the PTO disengaging when I put the truck under load. Engages OK, but when I rev the engine to raise the dump or try to raise the bed while moving the truck, the PTO disengages. Any ideas. If so, how did you correct it. I've contacted Chelsea tech support and they're...
