First GenSet! Scared and need advice: MEP-803A no Quad mod yet 2008

K1 is known to hang up occasionally if the set hasn't been used in a long time. Before you go crazy testing thinks, start by whacking the top of it with a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer while clicking the contactor switch up. If that doesn't work the TM tells you where to apply ground and 24V...

    Valence's M116A3 Mounted MEP-803A (10kw generator)

Er, well, to stay on topic of my generators, when I took off the front control panel flap, all of those pan-head philips screws were quite corroded and several were nearly stripped (one I had to drill out). So I replaced all 7 screws. Perhaps I should have used stainless but eh, if they last...

    Mep 003 injection issue

Well, there are 3 things at play regarding pump timing. 1) The gear that rotates the pump internals meshes with a gear on the camshaft. That "Timing" is set by putting the "PC" mark stamped on the flywheel aligned with the pointer on the bellhousing with the engine on cyl. 1 compression stroke...

    Mep 003 injection issue

So your pre-heaters are mounted in the intake manifold, look like 2 spark plugs screwed into the top of manifold. Running the heaters for 20-30 seconds should make the intake feel warm to the touch. The glow plugs are screwed into the side of the heads under the intake manifold coming straight...

    MEP-002a only outputting 125v

Excellent job! Looks really good... and should be very reliable now!

    Mep 003 injection issue

ADS made new nozzles for your injectors?? How much did that cost? Wonder why they didn't just buy new ones... Your description is sounding to me like you pump's plunger guide has skipped and the pump timing is now way off. Have you pulled the big cap off the center of the pump and removed the...

    Questions MEP803a

Whenever in doubt if you can't find a torque spec. you can check what size fastener you have and then look up general torque specs for that diameter fastener. Things like thermostat housings, covers etc. are not critical and just need to be tight within reason. 1 handed wrist tighten with a 3/8"...

    MEP 803 buyer guide/video

My son watches that guy too. We just saw that video the other day as well. First time I started it I thought he was running on 3 cyls. but it turned out all good in the end!

    Questions MEP803a

If you want to you can drill a small hole ( 1/8" or smaller ) to help bleed out air but its really not necessary. The only time you really have problems and can be saved by a bleeder hole is when your radiator cap is lower than the thermostat, which isn't the case in your 803.

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Based on your first post I am going on the assumption that you've had this gen for a while and it's been working correctly until now, right? And all you did was add the oil drain extension and some new batteries??

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Definitely sounds like the starter solenoid is stuck or you have a wire backwards. I've been using the small 12V 21AH batteries in my 831, my 4 wheelers and my son's LPW2 powered tractor all with no issues. They're cheap and I can lay them on their side in the tractor with no issues. I'd...

    Does anyone use black diesel?

By chance have you done any load testing with your 002 or 003? My son decided to try making some black diesel today, 2 gl. WMO diluted with some gasoline we previously used to degrease some parts , to match the viscosity of HHO, and then filtered to 4 microns and mixed that 50/50 with HHO. Put...

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

If you're looking to change out the regulator ( for whatever reason ) I'd go with @kloppk's replacement regulator instead of all the hassle of switching from the TRC to Libby. I used it on an 806 and worked perfectly, dropped right in and it bypasses the mouse-urinal of a transformer in the...

    MEP-004a or 005a voltage regulator

I've never done an 005 VR conversion. I've done Kurt's VR on an 805 as well as SX-460 on smaller units. Also have done several single phase 005 conversions ( bet that's what you're thinking ) but never a VR conversion, but like you said, they are usually pretty simple installations.

    MEP005A frequency meter not working.

Page 84 section 2-12 It bypasses everything except overspeed and short circuit. It is also supposed to lock out the starter, is that how yours is working? Are you starting it, then engaging the battle short? because you should not be able to crank it while its engaged. You only fill the day...

    MEP005A frequency meter not working.

No problem... I used your picture up above and zoomed in on it. My eyesight up close is dwindling down over the last couple years too! Need a flashlight and glasses to see the menu at restaurants now!

    MEP005A frequency meter not working.

the face of the gage reads FS=500 UADC so .5 milliamps DC should give you 62hz on the gage. Milliamps, not millivolts.

    MEP005A frequency meter not working.

When you start the machine are you holding the switch up for several seconds after it starts? If not that can affect the Hz meter function. 2nd, if you have a kill-a-watt meter or frequency setting on your DMM, what is the frequency that it reads? If its not around 61.5, adjust your throttle...

    MEP005A frequency meter not working.

Here's a handful of options, if yours ends up testing bad. The gage/ transducer combo's are a bit pricey. The newer transducer will work in an 802/803, 002/003 and I believe will also work in an 004,005 and 006...
