Scrap yard woes (**RANT**) - what's your advice?

If you've shown the seller your frustration, you may have already lost the battle. Sellers often percieve frustration as desperation (if the a prospect is willing to get mad about the price, he must really want the item) so the seller digs in even harder on the price. You might be better off by...

    Just Bought an M35A2

Mine has no winch... it's bobbed... and has 45 zerks.

    Just Bought an M35A2

I'd suggest, even if you thoroughly check out the brakes, and nothing is leaking, and everything is working perfectly, still replace every brake hose with brand new ones, even if the ones on it look new, and even if you have to get them made by a local shop (I got new ones made, and they were...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Hacked out some transmission alignment pins for my upcoming clutch, trans, etc., work. Got the idea from a post RustyStud made in a transmission thread here somewhere. 3/8 x 3-1/4 steel rods, tapered and slotted for a screwdriver on one end, threaded 3/8-16 on the other end.

    Door Latch Spring Replacement

Broken Door Latch Spring Replacement Forgot to mention in the vid that you'll need to remove the OUTER door handle as well as the inner handle to remove the latch assembly... Made this on the fly while fixing a broken door latch spring. The vid is a bit shaky and choppy, but I'm happy with the...

Looking for a Rockwell axle shop

Just like Frank did, it's a very good idea to at least double-nut the ring screws. He went all-out and even nylocked 'em too... nice.

Looking for a Rockwell axle shop

I bought/installed a set of zipper boots from Erik's about a year and a half/7,000 miles ago, and they're doing great. From what I've read, seems the quality has gotten much better over the last few years. If you need to disassemble the ends of the axle, or just want to, to inspect and learn how...

Looking for a Rockwell axle shop

I've got the same problem here with sloping asphalt everywhere... I just remove one wheel/do one boot, hub, etc. at a time, with it in gear, brake set, fuel shut-off locked, and chock the bejesus outta the tires that are still on the ground.

If you've got decent dexterity, and a few handtools, the guy in the mirror could probably put on a set of zipper-type boots without much problem.

NEEWB to Deuces. Looking to get first Deuce (need sage advice)

Given the way many of us feel about our trucks, maybe a good parallel would be something like this... A guy walks into an adoption agency and tells the receptionist "I'm thinking I'd like to try out adopting a kid... I'd feed, clothe, and shelter 'em, but I really don't want to spend any more...

Rear hub hot after replacing and repack all wheel bearings and seals

Motorcar, I hope I can speak for you as well by saying we certainly don't fault Erik's... He just sells what's available to him, and I believe he's been a great help to many.

NEEWB to Deuces. Looking to get first Deuce (need sage advice)

"So I get that older trucks are a big hassle..." Those of us who are committed to the insanity don't see it as a hassle... we see it as therapy, a labor of love, a project that will never be entirely finished, a never-ending story, etc. I've fixed what's been neglected, corrected what's been...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

That sounds like about exactly what I did to drill a 2" gauge hole in my dash where a 1" hole was... Used a socket as a pilot for the holesaw. A bit of resourcefulness makes a hobby like this so much more do-able.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Thanks for the input Gimpyrobb... I'm genuinely curious, what in particular have you found simplifies the job by removing the top plate before lowering the trans?

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Got some of the tools ready to do some transmission/clutch/rear main seal work in about a month... Made the clutch alignment tool from hard maple, per one of Gringeltaube's drawings. Pilot portion is 1.5" long, and a diameter of .749" gave a nice snug fit in the bushing. Clutch hub portion is...

NEEWB to Deuces. Looking to get first Deuce (need sage advice)

10k "trouble free miles" and "no major projects" is kinda relative to what you're used to... For example, if your conscientious about caring for the truck, you'll probably want to pack the hubs during that time. Hub packing is a regular maintenance item. Some guys will brag that they can knock...

NEEWB to Deuces. Looking to get first Deuce (need sage advice)

IMO, unless a person truly loves one of these trucks for reasons other than "it's big and cool looking", and is willing to spend a significant amount of time learning and working on the challenges it ABSOLUTELY WILL BRING then the buyer most likely isn't going to be happy for very long. The...

Spicer TLC Time! Chipped 4th Gear?

That brings up the next question... "would I really want to go much over 55, considering the truck's weight and 70 year-old brake and suspension technology?" With stock tires, seems the OD kit makes much more sense. Just can't see utilizing it much with 395's. Thanks for the info Simp.
