Oil Pressure Regulator/Spin-on filters problem solved.

Posting this just for reference in case anyone else winds up having a similar problem... Short version is; Seems a bad regulator was allowing high spikes in pressure, damaging spin-on filters, and causing long oil pressure build times on cold starts. I have the Jatonka spin-on oil filter...

Pros and Cons of zipper boots

I believe you'd really struggle to get one stretched over the other, let alone lined-up over the grooves well enough to get good contact with the rings. Then, if you had rings large enough, getting the rings over both boots and lined up with the grooves... oh man. As others have said, keep the...

    GL-1 Gear Oil Alternative

(Quote and text removed, for clean-up) FWIW, I believe transmissions could possibly have different druthers... The same way one brand-new engine may have more or less blow-by than the next, what works well in one trans may not work as well in another. One trans may have a bit tighter or looser...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

I've been told, quite pointedly, by passer-by experts in parking lots, such things as... - The un-occupied pinion flange on my front axle is... "the power take-off for a winch" - My Bobbed Deuce is... "without question an M37" - "All deuces have 8 lugs per wheel! Someone must've modified yours...

Just realized I forgot to post a pic of the dash left side detail in the OP... Doh!

My Little Black Truck (Deuce ****)

My Little Black Truck (DEUCE P0RN) I'm posting this with tremendous gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this site over the years, and to everyone who keeps SteelSoldiers up and running. This site has been a fantastic resource in helping me to build the exact daily-driver I wanted to...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Seems nobody wants to be the bad guy by stating the obvious here… This happened due to sheer negligence. As many members have mentioned over the years, the age and suspect maintenance history of these trucks warrants a thorough, bumper to bumper service at the first reasonable opportunity...

    Starter-- click, click,.... Bang! {sizzle}

It's been written on SS many times that a Delco 39MT gear-reduction starter will work, however, "39MT" is a series of starters, with many variations of models within the 39MT series. I believe I've got it narrowed down to the right model #, but it'd be nice to know for sure from someone who's...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Had a leaking pinion seal, so took the pinion flange, and a spare one, to a neighbor's house to have the grooves and pits removed and polished out on the lathe, like in Clinto's post here...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Replaced the Newstar brand, zipper-type right knuckle boot... again. I thought I'd got a couple years out of this set, but checked my receipts and it looks like it's only been about a year/4,500 mi. before this one gave out. Took about 2 hours total with no air/electric tools at an easy pace...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Did the brake light switch upgrade that's been talked about again/recently on SS (removing the hydraulic switch from the front of the airpack, and installing an air-actuated switch to the left/air side of the airpack). I know there are already many threads about this, but the "Upgrade Kits" that...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Fixed my leaking speedo cable/transfer case seal, with the help of Gringeltaube's post here; https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?29471-speedo-cable-leaking&p=354570&viewfull=1#post354570, or it can be found by doing a search for "8x14x5 Oil seal". Found the needed seal (2 ea. for $8...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Replaced the copper fuel line with 1/2" DOT Nylon tubing, from the fuel tank to the primary filter, and from the primary to the IP booster pump... I used a flared 1/2" copper stub from the pump plate fitting to a 1/2" compression union (there's an extra flared copper stub in the picture, so you...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

I picked up a rider... This is Poco Esqueleto, and he's been riding around on my back axle for a couple of weeks now. In that time, he's endured bone-chilling cold, highway speeds and dusty country roads, but he keeps hanging on for dear life (thanks to some cable ties and a few well-placed dabs...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Installed new glad hands with stainless valves and fittings. Emergency side glad hand had been hit by something and was patrially torn off the nipple (ouch!) and one of my old valves was leaking. Didn't want the large GI dummy handles, so I just fabbed up some plugs to keep the bugs out using...

    In-Tank Pump Hose For Deuce

Utah Biodiesel has to buy Viton hose in great quantity in order to make it worth their while. Yes, they are out of 1/2" right now, and because they sell less 1/2" than other diameters, until they run low on the more popular diameters they won't be placing an order, so no telling when they'll...

Random maintenance tip - crud at the bottom of the pop-out cab air vent

When I cleaned mine out, along with all the compost, and rodent-nesting-type material, I found a bonus door limiter and rubber absorber cushion at the bottom of both pockets that someone at some time had dropped down there, and instead of fishing them out, they just replaced the parts!

    whistler turbo sound

Another in a flurry of double tap-type issues in this thread!:shrugs:
  20. Menaces Nemesis

    whistler turbo sound

From what I've gathered, oil on the exhaust side is often "Slobber" due to the engine not being put under load often enough to force the rings to seal the cylinders well. It's oil on the compressor/intake side that tends to be more indicitive of bad turbo seals, and is also much more worrisome...
