Hey, I'm an ALMOST newb also. I had to ask the same questions!;-) I got to submit my own EUC this tear and recovered a 1008 from Ft Mead, Md. It was a pinta, but I LOVE my '08!

I too removed the pintle hitch and put the plate there. I am planning on adding a reciever hitch under the bumper and making a pintle to fit. No light, yet.;-)

I gots heat! I drove the truck to town and back and I had to even turn the blower off,cause it got too hot!:grin:

While pulling the kid out of the mud the other night, I realized that is was sure cold and dark in that 1008! I thought that my heater core might be stopped up, but found that the T-stat was stuck wide open. I've got one ordered from NAPA, so hopefully one down. Now all I need is a dome light!:wink:

My truck handles and drives like a SLOOOOW 80s pickup. Those 4.56 gears are slow! Especially in 4Low. But with only 43XXX miles on it, the steering and the like is still tight. I still want an OD tranny, but will probably wait until after winter now.

Check your belts first. If the belt is loose/worn, it may slip. Also check the connections. If all of these are OK, then check the FAQ section. There are a couple of fixes in there.

Yeppers, glowplugs. With only 3 working, it had to crank a bit to start! But it did start. But now it kicks right off. And as usual, when working on a 25 yr old truck, I found that the battery cables were just too bad to reinstall as they were. (I had to remove the rear battery and climb inside...

Well this kid comes to the door and says,"Can I use your phone?" Well I hurried up and put the new cable on and went to play! The new GPs made 'er start right up and I proved the 4WD works![thumbzup]
