What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Popped the roof-top tent open in the driveway so it could sit in the sun and dry out. It got a little damp during last week's rainstorms and it needs to get put in the garage for the winter. Unbolted it from the roof-rack rails and hefted it down to the tailgate, then down to the ground...

Running power tools off the slave port?

This. Using the 24V port (or the bus-bar), or an air compressor on the engine, or an inverter means your 6.2 diesel will be running the whole time. Excess wear and tear of the motor and electrical system, noise, stink, etc…. to cut lumber or drill holes? How is that better than cordless or...

    M1009 Radiator, civilian equivalent

I ask because the “coming soon” three-row has been removed from the page, so I don’t think it’s coming soon….or ever. My rad was leaking a year ago and I patched it with some stop leak, hoping it would hold me over until the three-row showed in stock. Since that’s not going to happen, and I...

    M1009 Radiator, civilian equivalent

Well somebody riled up the folks at Genesis. :D I’ve been checking that webpage almost daily for over a year waiting for the three-row radiator to show in stock (we have very different ideas as to the definition of the word ‘soon’). Now the three-row is gone completely. The overall thickness...

    truck still giving me problems.

I had a Ford Courier truck that had a similar problem. Turn the wheel and the steering would not return to center on its own, you had to help it back. In other words, if you turned the wheel and let go, it would keep going in circles no matter the speed. So I'm in this tight parking spot...

    M1009 Tailgate crank

When I got my M1009 the crank was broken. I was able to reach through the hole with a screwdriver and manipulate the window up and down. Not easy or fast, but possible. It was the first thing I fixed on mine, and still going strong. I treat it gingerly, like its a conglomeration of fragile...

? I found out recently that the seal between the roof and cap on our truck is residing in Oz with Dorothy and Toto. I found out recently that the seal between the roof and cap on our truck is actually made of cheaper walrus. I found out recently that the seal between the roof and cap on our...

cold start and dies after 10-15 seconds

As mentioned, loosen the cap to equalize the pressure. Try parking overnight with the nose of the truck downhill, IOW, lower than the back end, and see if it still does it the next morning. If it starts and runs great [parked nose-down] I would suspect the filter base has a weep.

How many of you use your cucv's everyday ?

I drive mine 35 minutes to the ferry, then 15 minutes to work, then reverse coming home, four to five days a week. Then every third weekend or so we drive it 1+25 up to the mountains for an overnighter. So averaging seven to eight hours a week every week for the last year. EDIT to add: I've...

    Snorkel idea

Mine has a sticker under the hood warning not to wash the engine with water or some such. How that's bad but submerging the entire motor is OK is beyond me. :?

My CUCV spin on fuel filter mod

I haven't changed mine yet, but I'm wondering if I should as the truck seemed to be dogging climbing a steep hill today. Loooooooong steep hill at 60MPH, about 85 degrees out, truck couldn't maintain 60 and dropped to 53 before I got to the top and started down the other side. Might be a...
