Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Yeah I’m at the store right now, it’s 1/8. I found a few elbows that I’m gonna try out to see what works the best.

Yeah I will probably replace the fitting with something like that before putting it on. Looks like something that could be found at Home Depot. I am going to get the mechanical part of the installation done and then I will see about how to run the wiring. Did yours also come with the foot...

That barb is just to vent the pressure from the transfer case so it’s not too crucial that’s it’s slightly bent I suppose. I called in and they said that I can just run a hose from it into the frame rail with a one way valve on the end (not included in kit….)

The gear vendors overdrive just showed up! Box was a little banged up and there was a little damage to a little brass fitting on the new tail shaft. It’s a little bent but looks like it should still work just fine. They probably shouldn’t install that piece at the factory since it’s gonna...

Btw looks like I’ll be getting the GVOD tomorrow! I’m gonna try to get it installed ASAP so I can measure for the drive shaft and get that going. I will be posting a lot of pics of the process of throwing one of these on.

Awesome! It looks like a handy tool to have when doing the belts!

I tried what you said to do and it helped a lot. I loosened those 4 nuts and was able to push the steering column over a good amount. It’s not perfectly centered but its pretty good, and now has clearance on the left side to no longer rub on the bezel. Good enough for now!

Unrelated but I thought I would mention I got one of those Thexton 383 power steering belt tighteners in the mail today. I found it on Amazon for only $11.99 shipped and it arrived today in all of its NOS glory. I love how they offer you 5% for your tool idea on the back of the packaging lol...

Yeah I agree, especially since I’m kind of crazy about things. I gotta remember the truck is 35 years old and just enjoy it. When I get back home I will mess with it more on the small stuff, but I don’t wanna make more work for myself right as I’m getting ready to hit the road for a couple...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Luckily I think the wire broke just this morning when I went to get some coffee, so I don’t think I was running it like that too long. I crimped a new terminal onto the wire and just took it out on the road and all seems to be fine now. I’m in the green on the voltage meter and reading...

Thing is it’s been like that since I got the truck. I just started to look at stuff with a little bit more scrutiny since I started repairing everything. I will investigate it and see if it can be shifted over a bit. My guess is that people have been using the steering wheel as a handle to...

Now that I got my dash back together I kinda realized that my steering column has always been over a bit to the left and I was wondering is this is normal or is there some adjustment to make it more centered? everything feels fine with it, just cocked over to the left some.

It’s actually the original dash that was in the truck. It’s just one of those adhesive covers someone put over the original grey dash. It has a few small cracks but I’m just reusing it for now. Thanks man 😊

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I just put the dash back in the truck. I want to report that the full clear plastic cover fits perfectly fine without any modifications! Since I was rebuilding my cluster I decided to go with the full covered plastic lens to protect my dummy light filters. I got the new replacement plastic...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I had to make a small modification to my wiring to get my front marker lights to work properly. I suspect this is because I converted the truck to LEDs and installed E-flashers like this one here. For whatever reason my front marker lights would light up very dimly when applying the turn...

I got my reverse lights working! Cucvrus shared a lot of good info on how to do it in an earlier post but I just got around to messing with it. The switch is located all the way at the end of the steering column near the firewall. There are some clips at the top side of the switch and once...

No problem man. Zerks are the name for the little grease fittings. There are several on the front end of our trucks. Here are some pics of a few of them. You connect the grease gun to them and pump the grease into the area. All my steering stuff ultimately needs to be replaced, but I added...

I got the Lock N Lube fitting for the grease gun today. I was able to finish lubing the front end and it made the job so much easier and faster. Every grease gun should probably have one of these things on it. You don’t wanna break a zerk like I did! Instead of the zerk popping into the...
