    Recirculating Coolant Heater?

Can’t help you as I’ve never used one of those but there might be some good info at ExpeditionPortal.com. Those folks build some wild overland expedition vehicles and often used multiple types of coolant heaters and exchangers in various different ways.

    Engine roughness when stopped

So yesterday I went into the transmission controller and changed the TCC value from 44mph to 45mph. Now the converter locks at exactly 45mph, I can hear and feel it. The TC unlocks at around 35mph while at throttle idle during decel. I could not replicate the issue... Perhaps it was just a...

    Engine roughness when stopped

The lines run into the factory cooler on the radiator and then down to a secondary cooler below the radiator. It’s not ideal but I don’t really tow, the M1008 is my daily driver.

    Engine roughness when stopped

exactly what I was thinking shortly after I made this post. That’s for the troubleshooting advice. I have very little hands on experience with automatic transmissions

    Engine roughness when stopped

Engine runs perfect while idling in neutral or park. Runs great while underway. The second I come to a full stop while in gear the RPM’s dip and it starts shuddering/shaking. Any ideas? Doesn’t happen all the time. Can’t tell if it’s a miss or what’s going on, it sounds really odd. Pop it into...

    6.2L Oil Pans

Anyone have a source for NEW OE or Aftermarket style oil pans for these 6.2L engines with the 2-piece rear main seal? When I removed mine about 9 months ago one of the lips was warped, I tried to straighten it but now its leaking like a sieve. Appears to be my only oil leak after replacing all...

    CDR Valve

So while cleaning and painting the parts that came off the engine I found that someone has used the oil fill tube as a pry bar pivot. It completely crushed the tube that feeds the CDR. Could have been why my truck leaked oil like crazy. I replaced it with a NOS HMMWV fill tube yesterday along...

Water Pump Bolt / Crossover Pipe

She lives! Finally got her started today. She runs great. Still have a few minor things to finish when parts arrive tomorrow, but should be road worthy in 24-hours

    CDR Valve

Thanks, I picked up a NOS vented oil cap and NOS CDR valve from Hillbilly Wizard. It would be a real shame to get this engine back together and blow a seal because of a CDR issue. I also found the metal bypass tube, which is integral to the oil fill tube and CDR system, to be completely crushed...

    CDR Valve

Where can I pick up a new one for my M1008? I might try to clean mine but its obvious its never been cleaned since it was installed in 1985.

6.2 and how much Timing Chain Slack or stretch is “normal” ?

I only have experience with the Cloyes, reputable brand and mine went right on. Getting the old crankshaft sprocket off did require a puller, it was a tight fit on the woodruff but it didn't put up too much of a fight. The new parts slid right on. I just installed Melling's high volume oil pump...

6.2 and how much Timing Chain Slack or stretch is “normal” ?

I just changed my timing chain. It had around 0.80"-1.00" slack, the max or just beyond the max allowable limit with only 50,000 miles. The new Cloyes chain has around 0.40" slack. Directly from the TM 9-2320-289-34 Intermediate Support, 3-33: 1. Mount dial indicator to front of engine block...

Water Pump Bolt / Crossover Pipe

How big of a deal is it to use a gasket? Fel-Pro had the full set so I used it. There was a gasket in there when I removed the timing cover and the water pump. I realize the TM states to use the anaerobic sealant but the gasket sets are available. Does using a gasket create a clearance issue?

Water Pump Bolt / Crossover Pipe

Happy to report that after many, many hours of cleaning old gasket material using every trick known to man and scrubbing bolt threads all through the night, it's all finally starting to go back together. I'm really curious what sealant was used on this engine, particularly the water pump. I had...

Water Pump Bolt / Crossover Pipe

Well I finally got the water pump off. The crossover coolant tube, well.. I have made little progress and it's not promising.

Water Pump Bolt / Crossover Pipe

I'm not going to remove that fitting. It seems like it just wants to snap. I tried once and I stopped. I don't need to twist off the brass fitting or strip the aluminum out of the crossover pipe. I'm going to get an impact today and remove the crossover pipe.

Water Pump Bolt / Crossover Pipe

Well, as usual I was shipped incorrect parts. For the 5th time. I will not have parts until the 11th so I'm dead in the water. What has happened to our automotive industry that you can't even get basic off the shelf parts? How do businesses function? Every part on this truck takes a week to get...

Water Pump Bolt / Crossover Pipe

I'm so afraid I'm going to snap bolts. Seriously. Everything on this truck is so brittle and fragile. I dropped the pan and the oil pump shaft retainer fell out. It was in 10 different fractured pieces. Just got the replacement today. The hoses are rock hard. I'm trying to replace them one at a...

Water Pump Bolt / Crossover Pipe

It is 100% seized. I stopped before I did any damage but I gave it all I had. Everything on this truck is seized. I don't understand, its a mostly rust free low mileage truck. Every bolt has been so unbelievably difficult. The oil pan was stuck on with so much sealant that I bent the front lip...
