    Yes I ran it in line with the heater. I don't use the heater that much and it never gets that cold here in Souther Kalifornia.

    You are right home depot special. but it doesn't get that cold here and as far as i can tell the heater gets really hot after the engine warms up. ouch. that burns.

    You can also find new shoes on e bay for around 45 dollars a set of 4. Check the drums for over heating, groves, glazing etc. If they look OK sand the shoes and drum to scuff them up a little. Reassemble and adjust.

    Dextron has 10 times more detergent and has lube quality's that kerosene doesn't. Just let it run around in the case with the transfer in Neutral no driving needed. Good old 85-90 is just fine for our old steele.

    Ah, rear axle would be easy and correct on both accounts. Just a paper gasket and away we go. I've been dealing with the front. Pain in my rear end:roll: Had to do 2 rear inside rear's last month. found them leaking when I was replacing the tork rods. At this rate I will be a first rate Mechanic:-D

    I was under the impression the rear seal was to keep the oil in the axle and away from the knuckle and out of the hub? It looked to me that if the oil continued to flow into the knuckle that it would flow into the hub and finally getting into the the brakes and bearings. The front outer axle...

    Drivetrain Operating Temperatures

    Check oil level in transfer case. If low add until second knuckle don't over fill. If really nasty dirty drain flush with dextron 3 and replace with new oil.:-D
