M37 repower with 250 straight six chevy

I like Kasper 31's idea. The over drive 5 speed trans would be a bonus and make life better for the Chevy 6.

M37 repower with 250 straight six chevy

The old Chevy 6 is a great engine. Back in the day I rebuilt quite a few and worked on a lot of them. The M37 radiator should be fine cooling capacity wise. Make sure you retain the fan shroud and pay attention to the distance the fan is from the radiator. You may need to make a spacer to go...

    1951 m37 with Chevy small block 350

I would go to a lower temp thermostat and see if that helps before I blamed the radiator. If you are running an original M37 radiator made from brass with the large tanks and the internal tubes are clean, that radiator has a lot of cooling capacity. You could also look at a high performance...

    M37 Engine Rebuild Kit

I most definitely agree with T Highway. Get every thing balances and blueprinted. It costs some money to do it right but if you want it to stay together it is well worth the dollars. Remember this engine will be operating in its upper RPM ranges when you are going 45 - 50 MPH due to the way...

    52 dodge m37 title vin# question

As far as what I can tell, and given the experience I had with my truck tracing the vehicles history of a HMV is all but impossible. The only thing I know for certain on mine is that the first owner was the US Army, it came from the factory with a winch but at some time during its military life...

    door art

I put Winona on the hood of my M37. When my dear aunt Winona passed away she left me some money which I kept for quite awhile wanting something special to spend it on. That ended up being the seed money for my M37. I was a 4th Division Marine and my uncle was a 4th Division WW2 Marine so it...

    door art

In Operation Iraqi Freedom a number of Marine Tankers took the old Afrika Corp palm tree logo and substituted the Swastika with the Eagle Globe and Anchor and stenciled it on the sides of their vehicles. Most everyone thought it was pretty cool and appropriate for where they were operating but...

    Non-catalyzed Paint Durability

Seems everyone has their own secret formulas so here is what I did on my frame off M37 restoration. Starting with bare metal I filled imperfections with Trans Star Gold body filler. I then primed all areas with Trans Star Euro Primer. This is a two part urethane high build primer sealer. A...

    Painting bolts

I have an abrasive blasting cabinet so I glass beaded all hardware and primed and painted everything very few problems with chipping. I used a lot of new grade 8 fasteners on the frame and some other areas and found paint sticks better if you blast these too before painting.

    1953 M37 USMC Radio Truck

Sweet. Always nice when you have toys to go with your rig.

    Project M37a4

Looking at Major Joe's pictures and it looked like some of the rod bearing caps have been ground down. Am I seeing things? If they have been ground down any idea why.

    Project M37a4

Interesting project. Can't wait to see the finished product. Keep posting the great pictures. Love the "Chip Foose Overhaulin" concept.

Low engine oil no engine knocking but a wobbling rubbing sound at high RPM?

I am thinking throw out bearing on the clutch. Drop the inspection cover and see if you see anything the form of metal shavings or bits of clutch material. Also a good indicator of needing a new clutch assembly is to look at the both edges of the friction material on the disc on the flywheel...

    Leaf Spring Bushing R&R

You should be able to clamp the eye of the spring in a bench vise and drive them out with a bushing driver or a old socket and extension. The old bushings will be harder to get out due to rust and dirt, the new bushings are not in there that tight you should be easy to install after you clean...

    Purchase or Pass?

I would agree the price is good for what it is. If you are looking to stay original M37 unless you purchase one already done yes they all need work and in most cases lots of it. I purchased mine and was going to make it just a runner. Trouble was I kept taking parts off it as I worked on it...

    M37 fuel filter upgrade

Yes that picture was out at the stumps as we called it back then. I think that was back in 1977 on a Fire Ex with 4/14. I was with Kilo Battery and ran the gun platoon. I also served as Asst. Battery Gunny at the same time. They had us out at a place called Camp Wilson which was a bunch of...

    Good Grief!!!

This is true. So they lose half their money or more so might as well finish it and have fun.

    R-2 crash truck

Glad you are into doing a restoration. I am also an RV guy and trust me there are always plenty of campers out there for sale.

original vs. restored, how are they valued?

I am with my friend Storm, drive it, enjoy it, go to parades and cruise nights at the local drive ins.
