1984 AM General M931 Cummins motor upgrades

For every action there is a reaction. More power means more strain on the driveline until you discover where the weak link is and then you start replacing things. If you are not going to do a lot of very heavy hauling the 8.3 is more than adequate. I flat towed an M934 with my M927A2 and it...

1984 AM General M931 Cummins motor upgrades

You can get 400 HP out of the 8.3 but you need to take it to an old school Cummins guy and have the pump worked on by someone that knows what they are doing. My buddy had the pump adjusted on his M923A2 and the difference is amazing. Doing the air cleaner and exhaust mods help a lot too. The 250...

What Is The Consensus On Deuce Bed Covers? Vinyl or Canvas? And Where Can I Buy One?!

You do not want canvas unless you are doing an exact retro restoration. I remember struggling with them back in the 70's and it sucked. They are very heavy, a pain to install/remove and will rot out in the sun unless you keep them treated with a preservative. They are also a pain to repair...

    5th wheel hauler

If you are absolutely married to the idea of an MV I have a very nice M275 deuce tractor for sale. It will hold 60 on flat ground pulling an empty electronics van trailer. It needs a good going over but was running when parked. I also have a M927A2 5 ton that has a shorter bed with a 5th wheel...

M25 2.5 Ton Rockwell Rebuild Needed near Atlanta

I butt dialed him a few days ago and he said he was busier than a one armed house painter. He may get back to you but the GA Rally is quickly approaching and he will be wrapped way up in that. You might want to have a backup plan.

    Oshkosh wins JLTV Contract.

Looks like Oshkosh has just about cornered the market on MV's. They now make the HETT, HEMMET, LMTV, PLS and now this. Methinks the fix may have been in.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I have the loaner M927 parked next to the driveway angled down which allows water to collect in front of the 20 foot bed. Yes the drain holes are terminally clogged. I cranked it up yesterday and backed up slowly until the water ran out of the back in a raging torrent. I pulled back up and...

    Fixing Bent Lock Ring

I have seen a bad lock ring blow off and pierce the side of a van trailer parked 20 feet away. Don't even think about reusing one that is deformed.

    Value of 5 ton

Being a "Marine" truck (if it has the lockers and other upgrades) might increase the value to a knowledgeable buyer if they want those. The 900 series trucks suffered the same fate as the deuces when the floodgates opened. The scrap man got a lot of them, a lot were chopped/modded, and a lot of...

Ok.. Dumb question about my tractor

Check the position of your light switch. There is on position that gives you brake lights but no tail lights unless the headlights are on. You could also have bad bulbs.

    Snow-Deuce (Chesuncook Lake, Maine)

I assume that the front axle cannot engage and make the tires rotate. It looks like it would be very easy for those metal skis to dig in and bring the whole thing to a halt. I bet steering it would be a bear too.

    M818 better fuel mileage

You can't gold plate a turd. (well you can but then you just have an expensive POS) They are what they are....tough military vehicles built to haul mixed cargo over various terrains while being driven by people that could care less about fuel mileage and maintenance. And they have the...

    gold device What it is?

Before nitrous you could get a boost by punching the ether start button but the Motor Sergeant frowned on it when he had to replace an engine.

A system to lift the bows and cover off

You would have a lot of problems with the individual staves coming out of their respective holes.....most of the time they will bind when you try to pull them. Years ago I was in a National guard unit that had fabbed up a metal frame that took the place of the bows and staves. It did not go into...

GA to OK in BFR's/Papabear's/Patracy's Deuce.

There used to be a good truck stop in Alama but I haven't been out that way in a while. Always go west of any major city when laying over to keep from fighting morning commute traffic (when going west).

    M923 prices?!

It's worth more than that for scrap. These vehicles are made of very good steel. Even when prices are in the crapper professional scrappers will pay premium prices an hold them till prices go back up. I've had my favorite scrapper call me looking for good melting steel.

GA to OK in BFR's/Papabear's/Patracy's Deuce.

You do not have to adjust your route but just try to keep Murphy off your back while you are near Memphis. A long as you are 15-20 miles from the center of town you will prob be OK. West Memphis has several truck stops where the fuel is a little cheaper than TN (or used to be when I was...

GA to OK in BFR's/Papabear's/Patracy's Deuce.

Memphis Equipment is very close to where you turn to cross the bridge into West Memphis, AR. West Memphis is just as big a craphole as Memphis proper, just further west (if you have ever camped out in one of the truckstops there you know what I mean). I would mapquest them and have their...
