    Issues with GL?

Dave, GL can be a rewarding experience (as in saving some money) or a drive you right up the wall PITA. If you are only going to buy one vehicle I would find a seller that buys regularly from GL and flips vehicles to make a few bucks (like I used to). They have taken the risk that there...

    315 big cam in a m818

Should be an easy swap but remember...you are still gearbound by the rears.....taller tires will help but you will never run with the big rigs out on the interstate. I would consider a change to air brakes.....I think there is a kit to convert the 800 series over to air without swaping out the...

Long Haul Advice?? De. to Oregon

You are non-commercial.....unless the sign says "All trucks must enter scales" you can just bypass them (I was a commercial driver for many years). Bear in mind there is a difference between a "weigh station" and an "inspection station" (although sometimes they are combined).....just watch...

    What's that I see?

Looks like they overloaded the landing gear on that one.....slightly askew and sunk into the ground. Doesn't look military to me unless it is Air Force or other branch.

MKT newbie, volunteer for KP, boston area

Having lost a lot of body hair to immersion heaters I will pass......I have a diesel fired water heater that goes to a portable shower unit.....if we can trick someone into bringing a 5-10KW genny to the rally we will have an endless supply of hot water for cleaning and washing.

MKT newbie, volunteer for KP, boston area

Having been on the MKT crew with Mike and others at the last GA rally I can second a lot of the above as far as the work involved in setting up and breaking down. We seemed to be able to coodinate pretty good when we were actually cooking inside the MKT. Some of it was trial and error but we had...

M172A1 landing leg crank handle needed

AMG.....when I was pulling those trailers we had a problem with the cranks walking away....my fix was to take a regular crank and extend it by adding a piece of pipe in the handle and bolting it on with a backing nut.

    Cat 7155 tranny

The biggest issue I had with the Cat tranny in the M916 I drove was when the air pressure in the system dropped below 80 PSI (still high enough to keep the brakes from locking up) it would kick into neutral....bad news if you were going down hill with a heavy load on. The military and the...

    Modern multifuel redesign?

Years ago I drove a deuce to a remote site in Germany.....the only fuel I could find was at an air strip....110 Octane Aviation gas. We have all seen the warnings on the data plate on deuces.....DO NOT USE AVIATION GRADE FUEL There was an old crew chief at the base and I explained my delima...

    Odd Rims

Those dolly's pop up all the time on GL......usually go for a reasonable price. I have seen them with brand new tires go for a hair over min bid. They are a real PITA to hook up (unless we missed something in the TM translation). My unit in Korea had one and they will make a real arse out...

If I weren't such a handsome devil I would take offense at that remark. As long as they are fresh Poppop....I only use farm raised, free range possums for my gormet meals.

You can't see the Master Sgt. rank in my avatarrofl ......welcome again young trooper. If you can make it to the GA Rally in Oct you will have the time of your life and see some MV's that will knock your socks off. Papa Bear may be older than dirt (his first MV was a chariot) but he and his...

    used cooking oil as fuel

For those of who don't know it "yellow grease" (all the crap that ends up in the container behind any place with a kitchen) is a traded commodity. It is against the law to dump any grease or oil into the sanitary sewer system. It is refined and sold the the feed industry, cosmetics (bet the...
