    PTO driven by aux engine?

I still have the frame and tank off of the M49 I am parting out. The PTO for that was mounted on top of the transfer case. If there was an unright gas engine mounted on a flat plate on the frame it could be connected to the PTO shaft that ran the pump (that is mounted at the rear of the tanker)...

Congrats to new FMTV Civi Owner

I remember when the first surplus M35A3's were going for 12K or better.....the first buyers always pay a premium for something unique.

    Extra lights, lamps etc..?

My deuce is having turn signal and brake light issues. Since I am not overly concerned with maintaining stock stuff on my primary deuce I am considering totally rewiring my deuce using a "Painless" (or other aftermarket wiring harness) system. I will prob stay 24 volt. Has anybody else did a...

    drain plugs WTH

Thank the environmental wackos in the state your truck came from for this. To avoid even a chance that one drop of anything hits the ground some states require that all fluids are drained on "scrap vehicles". I have never picked up a vehicle in Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas or Mississppi that...

    Extra lights, lamps etc..?

The Army actually had yellow fog light kits that could be ordered through unit level maint. This modification was very common where fog was a hazard. Several vehicles (wreckers, bridge trucks, pipeline trucks, etc.) had small movable service lights that were attached at various points. Some of...

    Jumping out of High range

Before I did anything internal to the TF case I would try to adjust the linkage. Remove the center covers (a booger if the bench seat is in) and check the linkage....you can take out the pin and spin the clevis end to make the shaft come out or go in farther. Once you get the covers off you can...

    Deuce Use?

When I was a little kid I spent hours out in the back yard under a big hickory tree pushing my Tonka toys all over the yard. I had bulldozers, front end loaders, dump trucks and a big TEXACO tanker truck (hey all the other vehicles had to have fuel). Then I went in the Army in 1972 and...

    Ever hit a Sub-Compact?

If "so goes California, so goes the country" is the truth then we are, as a free nation, doomed. CA taxed and spent it's self into an abyss. They passed liberal laws and environmental regulations that has send business and industy packing to other states. If I am not mistaken (I think I...

    Ever hit a Sub-Compact?

I have either been in the miltary or a commercial driver all of my adult life. There always have, and always will be lousy drivers in the world. One of the problems in the US is that we dont require drivers to attend a real driving school prior to getting a license. The govenment should set...

    My Big Ride

GL sold a big Crown Motor Coach a few months ago out of Ohio......I was drooling over it but the motor was blown and I have too many projects anyway. It was painted Air Force blue and looked like it might have been a mobile command post or some type of media vehicle. I hope whoever bought it...

    Wreckerman's Spring Fling

Well folks I have decided to host a one day mini-rally in late March or early April. This is primarily for folks close by to meet and greet but anyone that wants to drive over is welcome. I have chosen Cornwall Furnace, located near Cedar Bluff, Alabama, as the venue. It is much like the...

    New to the family

Welcome to the "Old Hooker" club. These vehicles are amazing pieces of equipment.......but be careful...most operations are a minimum of a two man job. Winching and using the crane reqires close coodination between an operator and a spotter/hook up man. Have a great time and be careful.
