60 series Detroit....I had one in a 96 Freightliner......it was a Caterpiller painted green. Low RPM, high torque, unless you had a real heavy load on or hit a bad hill you didn't do a lot of shifting. This is the engine they should have put in the HEMMETs instead of that V-8, double-breasted...

Check with OFFROADFABWORKS.......I think he has expressed interest in doing "bobjobs"....he has a couple of my dueces that might be good candidates for a transmorgification. He also has a design to put power steering on deuces for a lot less than current available options.

What he said. I am using red top Ultamas in my M52 and Advance El Cheapos in my deuce. They crank fine and I have had no issues. You can get adaptors for the Ultamas so they will be secure in the battery boxes. I think OD Iron has them.

Anything in the motor pool that is running has the steering wheel locked and sometimes the batteries disconnected. I live far out on the sticks and waiting on a 911 response is slow. Since my neighbors live in fear of what I may do ( or haul in) next I find that any other security is redundant...
