    Chemical Shelter engine

While I was resting and celebrating Robert E. Lee's birthday on Monday I decided to see if the engine that powers the Chemical Shelter trailer would fire off. Myself and Freight Train had made a successful parts run to Double Deuce's place near Montgomery on Sat. I scored an original 24 volt...

Nother NE Alabama Recon mission with Wreckerman

Here are some pics of the "disabled veteran" we found at said junk yard. :( There was a pretty cool International fire truck that was in good shape (like I need another project). 8) Unfortunatly the vehicle I was seeking had been sold. Good news is that it didn't go the the crusher. :lol...

    Chemical Shelter Trailers

If you are refering to the inflatable shelter I have not removed it from it's protective cover yet. If the engine runs and the belts are not dry rotted I am going to try to inflate the shelter (if I can convince #2 son to assist Dad). There are several aluminum poles that appear to be some sort...

    M819 wrecker truck tractor question

We had a transportation unit next to us at Fort Benning that had one of these wreckers. I drooled over it constantly but short of missappropration of Gov property (don't think it didn't cross my mind) I had zero chance of getting it. The Motor Sergeant told me these vehicles were primarily...

    Chemical Shelter Trailers

Littlebob......Since no one has showed me the color of their money I am preparing to scrap out the one in my shop and eventually the others. All of the parts are there and I have not cut or removed anything. I turned the engine over with a breaker bar so it is not locked up. I have not tried...

    General Motors Defense projects

When I was in the Transportation Corps I railed against the new series of vehicles the DOD was buying. IMO they were designed by idiots and built by morons. With the old stick trucks if your batteries died you could roll off a small hill in low range/high gear and roll start the...

    Data Plate spelled wrong!!??

One of my pet peeves is people who "chaulk" their wheels. IT"S CHOCKS YOU IDIOTS!!!! CHOCKS, CHOCKS, CHOCKS........how hard is it :?: :!: :!: :!: When I was at Fort Benning our motor pool had a sign that said "When parking always chaulk your wheels". :cookoo: When I pointed out ther error...

    Hey guys/gals newb here

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (sound of Wreckerman sliding headfirst down the slippery slope at an alarming rate) I have only had two voccations in my life that were constant, the Army and driving a truck. I have been around MV's most of my adult life. I guess they take me back to...

Long Haul from Bridgeport,CT to Portland, OR

I would try to find a "Hot Shot Rig", basically a commercial dually pickup truck with gooseneck trailer. These guys specialize in smaller loads and are cheaper than regular freight lines. Sometimes they are looking for something to fill out a trailer. There are also sites out there where you...

    Hey guys/gals newb here

Abandon hope (and wallet) all ye who enter here. You will be sucked into the vortex of military vehicles. What the faithful call "green Iron fever". :driver: One will never be enough. You will seriously consider owning a tank. The bigger the better. aua You will congregate with...

Dolly Convertor Saga Continues completed haul

I have to admit that it is an impressive looking rig Sir. 8) I agree that a 5-ton would be a better prime mover (either tractor or cargo) but as they say in racing, "ya run what ya brung". :driver: If it all had a new paint job and markings it would be "da bomb". I may have to rethink...

    question about vehicle maintence tents

I have seen 5 ton wreckers, M916's, and 10k rough terrain fork lifts with ROP canopies inside them. They are big but a PITA to put up without several warm bodies and a forklift.

    Your truck gotta name??

I am (for better or worse) one of those people that name vehicles. I had a Ford F-250 that I raised from a pup that was named Brutus Maximus. My 96 Freightliner was Rachel Dee and my last big rig, a 2002 Pete was Jessica (after an Allman Brothers Band Instrumental of the same name). The...

    Abusing the Equipment

SALTPETER!!!!! You mean there is another use for it. I thought it was a "flavor enhancer". :?: My old lady has been puttiing it in my food for years. I can't say it makes the food taste any better but I don't visit my girlfriend as much I used to.
