Broke Down in Billings Montana - Need to find a shop that can replace wheel cylinders

My Deuce is super singled with Goodyear 11.00R20 G286 tires. They were installed by the PO. They provide a few more mph and excellent highway performance and are fantastic in the rain. I have not bashed them off road so I cannot say about snow, ice or mud. The PO instructed me to run them no...

Broke Down in Billings Montana - Need to find a shop that can replace wheel cylinders

Is it possible one of the shops bent your tie rod when jacking the front of the truck? That would cause significant toe in, with accelerated tire wear. Have you noticed worse fuel mileage? Would indicate more drag/ You should be able to measure your toe-in accurately enough with a tape...

    best gear oil for deuce

Now print that out, staple it to your forehead, and go see the nice man at the parts store.

    best gear oil for deuce

'Straight' menas that it is not multi-viscosity. It is just 40 wt, all the time. Multi-viscosity oils change viscosity based on temperature. 15W-40 is not the same as 40 weight oil. You want 40 weight oil. Straight 40W.

    best gear oil for deuce

No, that's not what was recommended. The recommendation was GL-5 80W-90 in the axles and STRAIGHT 40w non-detergent in the transmission and transfer case.

    ATF red dye?

Not a lawyer; nevertheless I'd say 'yes' because otherwise they would be in restraint of trade.

Broke Down in Billings Montana - Need to find a shop that can replace wheel cylinders

Here are the tricks for a tall person to drive a Deuce: First, adjust the pedals. Two 9/16" wrenches and you can shorten the height of the brake and clutch pedals from underneath. You will need a piece of coat hangar wire to hold the pedals down whilst you adjust them. Second, remove the...

    ATF red dye?

This thread has me thinking, isn't some gasoline red? I doubt that anyone ever runs straight gasoline, but Murphy's Law states that some day someone will be doing emergency repair with only gasoline available to refuel. Or, would the inspectors at that point simply smell the gasoline? I keep...

I believe that if you have broken rings, the vapor will be noticeably puffing.

Rear main seal or transmission input shaft?

After a few hours of highway driving, my Deusce experiences clutch slip under low speed/high load. For example, say you slow down to 15 moh and then need to accelerate up a hill. The clutch will begin to slip a bit, which is easily controlled by backing off the throttle a bit. This only...

    Vermont CDL

Does Vermont require a CDL to drive a Deuce with Vermont antique plates? I checked the Vermont DMV web site and the information there can be interpreted either way.

    Exterior Latex/Acrylic House Paints

I hear you. What is somehat annoying is that if you accidentally splash paint, it stays forever but if you want it to stick...... It's happened to me. I once accidentally spilled some paint right onto a dirty, greasy, not-at-all-prepared-for-paint floor. Years later that paint is still...

    Exterior Latex/Acrylic House Paints

Thanks for the reply. I should have been more clear with the description of the existing paint. It is only peeling in a strip on the top of the front bumper. That area I would sand. Everywhere else is just the normal GM-clear-coat-weathers-off that is usually seen on vehicles from the 80s...

    Exterior Latex/Acrylic House Paints

Gentleman, I have a question about painting an OT vehicle. I've got a Chevy APV (plastic body) stashed away with Stabil in the tank and a solar trickle charger. The body has no rust (obviously) and no dents, but the factory clear is worn through or peeling off in several places. I'd like to...

    Lockout hubs

Don't forget that the vehicle is moving. Even without the ring gear spinning, there is plenty of splash from bumps and vibrations. Also, it does not take much lube because there is no load. Also, ever disassemble a third member that had been sitting for a long time? There is still lube in...

    Lockout hubs

The venture capitalists have a term for those who steadfastly stick to their point in spite of information to the contrary. They call it 'breathing your own exhaust'. Spider gears precess ALL THE TIME and under load, at that. Do you think for a minute that the tires on a driven axle are...

    Lockout hubs

In response to your first paragraph above, perhaps that is what you get for driving a Ford. ;) In response to your second paragraph, if one wheel is physically disconnected from the center carrier, then the behavior on a sharp turn (even with the front driveshaft disconnected, as you state)...
