I had the same part break on me on a family vacation 1500 miles from home once... long story short, the parts manager from the Lovell, WY GMC dealer picked me up at a local park and drove me around to find the part on someones parts truck in a back 40 (after several stops at local junk yards)...
VIN # on the frame is typically on the drivers side frame rail, under the cab/on top of the frame. It is impossible to read without a mirror to get in between the body and frame.
I had a mid 80's civi truck do this... ended up being a loose connection at the rear in the wiring that runs up inside the bed to the taillight housing. You should be able to use a multi-meter to troubleshoot this fairly easy. See if you have power at the tail light connector behind your bumper...
I bought a M1008 parts truck with a universal reese hitch on it and put it on my '84 K20 without much trouble. I did use 1" thick spacers at each of the 6 mounting points to keep it from interfering with the shackles and spare tire crossmember though.
I don't remember if I had to drill any of...
All of my civi 6.2's have been 12V at the glow plugs (12V hooked to a meter only, more like 10.5V with the voltage drop from the glow plug load). But they have all been the older style controllers (82-84). I don't burn up glow plugs.
I found this link:
GM-GMC: 6.2 diesel, ac delco, glow plugs...
GM just put 12V to the 6V glow plugs. There is no means of dropping the voltage from 12V to 6V. This makes a 6V glow plug heat up fast, but also burns them out faster and in many cases swell. If one dies you still have a 12V supply to all the plugs since everything is wired in parallel.

I'm running 37" Hummer radials on aftermarket wheels and 4.10 gears in my stock K20 axles (TH400 so no OD). It is decent at 60-65 mph on the freeway turning close to 2500 RPM. I'd only be running about 300 rpm higher with 4.56 gears.

Going from 4.56 to 4.10 won't be very noticeable to the driver. Are you sure it is worth $1200-2000 (assuming you have to pay for installation) to gain 200 RPM at 60? Adding an overdrive or taller tires would be a better bang for the buck.
You could also find sets on eBay and do the setup...
Front springs are the same for a stock K20 and K30. The main difference is 2 leaf for a small block or 3 leaf for diesel/big block. In lift springs, the HD springs tend to do well with the diesel and heavy front winch bumpers. Anything over 4" lift starts to get pretty stiff and ride like a...
That is the casting # on my flywheel... may not be the actual GM part number though. GM was good about doing that on a lot of parts (casting #'s not matching the part # in their system).
