55 gal fuel storage drum preparation?

I've had mine in use for 3 years now. They came with some motor oil in them and I just drained the excess oil and filled with diesel. No rinsing necessary. Mine are stored outside under a shed. I screwed some air compressor mufflers in the 3/4" NPT hole to keep them vented. The mufflers have...

Looking for information on multimeters, regular or one that also clips around wires? Don’t know much so brand, if permitted, model etc thanks.

I'm on the cheap side of the fence. I have found many of the inexpensive tools will serve my purpose and save me money. I have one of the Harbor Freight clamp on meters. They use to have two versions of the cheap ones and the cheapest didn't have a hold function. It looks like they have done...

    Generator Painting and Stenciling

Great info on the paint and stencils. I will throw out another idea for making the stencils. I have a vinyl cutter I make some decals and stencils with. If you have your own vinyl cutter or you can go to a local sign shop I have found cutting stencils out of shelf paper works pretty good. The...

Snowed In - Running on MEP003A

Better you than me :). Just finished cleaning up after our little rain storm. We were only on MEP power for about 5 hours.

    Mep-803a as whole house generator

Yes the water heater only runs one element at the time. Top element warms the surface then it cuts off and the bottom element brings the rest up to temp. The 803 may well do it but I didn't want to chance burning up a compressor or well motor at start up. I have loaded mine to 13,500 watt...

    Mep-803a as whole house generator

I'd say you have been lucky so far. BUT maybe I'm wrong. My house is a little smaller than yours but it's ALL electric. I will leave any two 240 breakers on. I have never attempted to run my 803 without ANY load management. I'm pretty sure if my water heater was on at the same time my well was...

How much generator do I need?

I don't mean to offend but with that many questions I don't think you are a good candidate for a military surplus generator. At the current trend in prices I don't think military surplus generators are a good gamble for anyone. If you had a good mechanical and electrical apptitude and wanted...

    Jump Starting MEP803A

Just had to figure out how to jump mine. Both batteries were right at 12v but weak. I connected my truck to one battery and let it charge a few minutes then moved the cables to the other battery. On generator power as I type.

Installed Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge on MEP-803A

My panel gauge started working sort of. It doesn't start to read until the machine warms up but consistently comes back to life as the temperature begins to read. The fact that it starts and remains running lets me know it has oil pressure. I still do monthly tests. I check all the fluids...

MEP803A low output for solar system backup

You need to disconnect the generator from the system and load test it. Keep an eye in Craigslist for a free or cheap electric range. What voltage do you have it set for?

    voltage drop

My utility voltage measures 248 at the panel. My 803 sits right behind the house and is connected with 12' of 6 gauge wire. I set the gen voltage to match at 248. Shouldn't hurt a thing IMO.

    Algae in Generator Fuel

A wet vac with some bent pieces of pvc pipe and get into the tanks and get a fair amount out. When I did the John Deere I bought at auction last year I could get to most of it with a straight tube.

    Algae in Generator Fuel

Every problem I've had was present in the equipment before I bought it. Seems every tractor I buy either has rust or algae in the tank. I have installed a clear small engine filter between the tank and pump on ALL my diesels. So far I've had pretty good luck using the prescribed amount of biocide.

Mep-803a motor locking up at 0 and 180deg

If it spins over free and all the valves are going up and down I would button it up and try starting it.

    Turkey day outage

Happy Thanksgiving y'all. Our power went out too. We were done cooking but still ran the 803 for about an hour. I worked all morning and needed a shower about the time the power went.

Mep-803a motor locking up at 0 and 180deg

May be a valve stuck in the down position too? Might want to pull the valve covers and have a look there.

    MEP 803a with Mil Trailer

I was thinking more about the simplicity of going to the auto parts store rather than ordering stuff. Or in my case I had the inline fuse holder and fuses in my parts bin.

    MEP 803a with Mil Trailer

FYI for future reference that fuse mod doesn't have to be a high dollar slo blow type. I stuck an automotive type fuse holder on mine with a fast acting glass fuse. It hasn't blown in over 100 hours use. Plus I have the piece of mind knowing if I have a problem it should blow quickly. Not as...

    MEP 803a with Mil Trailer

Looks like you got a good deal. I wonder if the seller knew they had to toggle the circuit interrupter switch to make power? Wouldn't that be funny if they just didn't download and read the TM.

How I moved the 803 to the rear yard ALONE.

Good job! Last time I moved mine I used some clamp on forks on the bucket of my tractor and attached 3" ratchet straps to the lift hooks. I didn't try to lift it more than a few inches off the ground.
