    Frequency meter erratic

My frequency gauge didn't read at all and my power and voltage gauge were inaccurate. I made some adapter plates and converted to digital meters. The square combination meter for total voltage and Hz reads 5 volts low but the Hz matches exactly with my Fluke. All I had to do on it was attach...

    Solar trickle Charger

I run the unit under load monthly. It's been my experience that keeping a trickle charge with a solar panel results in longer lasting batteries. I have only topped up the batteries once since wiring direct to the panel and the fluid wasn't below the plates when I did. They probably weren't...

    Solar trickle Charger

I bought an ALEKO 20W Monocrystalline Solar Panel 24 Volt Output off eBay to use on mine. The original charge controller died and I now have it connected direct. So far it is working okay but not having a charge controller means I have to top up the batteries with distilled water every now and...

    Water in the oil

Don't jump to conclusions. Was the exhaust flap taped closed? I would drain all fluids, fill the radiator with water, and pressurize it to see if any water makes it back into the sump. See if the engine turns by hand. If it looks good from there refill with oil and try to start it.

Got installed on the island - MEP-803a

Without some sort of data logging system that measures all parameters you may never know what caused it. One thought is if the clamp meter you have has the ability to record max amps you could leave it running on the system or at the house panel to see if it was an over current situation. Do...

New MEP 803 Owner (So far very happy)

Yes The small return hose will come off of the rail that has the 4 1/4" lines. It goes up to the injectors and connects to plastic tees then loops around and back to the tank. The 1/4" hoses may be okay but the small cloth covered hose doesn't last long and is most likely the cause of the fuel...

New MEP 803 Owner (So far very happy)

Might as well go ahead and replace the dry rotted fuel return hose. I used Gates part number 27000 1/8" from Oreily auto parts and it's holding up good. If memory serves me correctly I bought 10 or 12 feet of 1/8" and a couple feet of part number 27002 1/4". The short 1/4" pump hoses can be...

    Hurricane season

My monthly run was last Sunday. Everything seems fine but I had to top up the batteries a little. I have had a heck of a time keeping a solar charge controller working so I decided not to replace them as they failed. I ruined the deep cycle battery on one of my field cameras but I have a 100W...

Anyone with a 803A in Jersey that I could hear in person??

    MEP-803A mixed load test results

You should verify output with a clamp meter and voltmeter that are fairly accurate. My 803 had a non working hz meter and the power meter wouldn't go over 80% with 13000 watts load. I ordered a digital combo generator meter that read volts, hertz, and hours to replace the power meter. I stuck a...

    Fair price for a MEP-803A?

I use my 803 to power an inverter plasma cutter. Works great!

803 vs central air unit...no go

Get yourself a clamp on amp meter to test with. You can get one with the hold function at Harbor Freight for about $15. The one I have reads about 4 amps low compared to a Fluke but it's close enough. Don't buy the cheapest one that doesn't have the hold function. You will need it to hold the...

MEP 803A Corrosion On Fuel Fill Components

After some thought and inspection I have decided to remove the strainer basket from my fuel filler. Article after article tells you that diesel fuel can dissolve the zinc in galvanized coatings. Both of my tractor manuals warns against the use of galvanized cans for fuel storage. Yet the...

New old stock 803 break in oil.

Mine was over filled after adding the prescribed amount of oil the first time and the subsequent oil change. I discovered the drain plumbing was tilted up and not allowing all the oil to drain. Part of my problem was the panel was bent where the pipe plug fitting was bolted on. I straightened...

MEP 803A Corrosion On Fuel Fill Components

This caused me to go check mine. It has a slight gray film on the outer casing The the screen is rust colored but not clogged or disintegrated. It looks like the screen housing is coated with galvanize coating. This is no longer acceptable in the diesel world. According to my fuel supplier pure...

    Optima Alternative

I've had great luck with the Walmart lawn tractor batteries. Just learned last year they make them in 3 different CCA sizes. I've been running the 270 CCA size in my Mustang for years and get 5 years out of them. Hard to beat for $30. I put the 340 CCA size in a couple of applications. The ONLY...

You'll hafta show me a picture of this. I couldn't even get a pair of group 24 batteries to fit in my 803.

    Optima Alternative

The 51R I bought for my tractor was part number 51R440BAGM. Make sure and look at the specifications to see if it will fit. They didn't list a 34/78 in the Bosch but they have a Champion AGM battery in the 34 size. It also has a 4 year warranty. They have a dozen different AGM batteries listed...

    Optima Alternative

For you AGM users: I came across an AGM battery with the Bosch brand name on it today. Just purchased a 51R from Pep Boys for $146.24 before tax for my tractor. They offered a 25% discount online and the store honored it at the counter. Time will tell how it works out but it has a 4 year free...

    803A high price

Seems I've read as many or more horror stories on the low hour units. I think a 2000 hour unit is more likely to be a good investment. Mine had 2600 hours on the clock and took very little to get sorted out. BUT I have said many times that I would go to Hardy and look before I would pay over...
