    Generators at GL ?

This is why I have my unit on a monthly regimen. Even then I have found things tend to pop up when I actually need it. So far it hasn't been anything that prevented it from being used. I like the idea of a brand new unit with piped in fuel but my reality is I couldn't afford it even if the...

    Load Bank?

I only run all 3 circuits briefly on mine. Have run the two 5400 watt circuits for a couple hours at a time with that fan and no issues. Elements glow dim so I think they are protected. I wouldn't see a need to run all 3 circuts for an extended period.

    MEP-803A / MEP-802A Water Temp Gauge

I just ordered a VDO 310-907 water temp gauge for mine. Will have to wait and see how or if it works out. If it isn't accurate with the existing sensor I will order a VDO sensor and tune from there. EDIT: This gauge was not plug and play compatible. May call VDO tomorrow to see if it can be made...

Fuel and Temp Gauges went wonky

    Done did all that.

Fuel and Temp Gauges went wonky

You tell me? It has a decal that reads RESET but no plate or indication that included a new engine or anything that drastic. It had documentation that says the fuel and temperature gauges, among other things, were replaced at 2616 hrs. The fuel and temperature gauges look newer than...

Best way to tell when power is restored?

They welded the adjustment on mine. Looks like they touched it with a plastic melting tip to prevent adjustment by HO.

Fuel and Temp Gauges went wonky

Looks like the gauge is bad. Base nuts on connections were a little loose but that didn't fix it. Cold resistance on sensor wire was 440 ohms. Running voltage to power connection with negative lead connected to gauge ground is 26 volts. Engine warmed up and reading 180 at thermostat housing via...

Best way to tell when power is restored?

Battery should be okay but going to check it today. Alarm was sounding when I turned the alarm on and power was off.

Fuel and Temp Gauges went wonky

Yeah the first time it went pegged with a cold engine. Second time there was no indication of over heating other than gauge reading.

Fuel and Temp Gauges went wonky

My fuel gauge quit a while back. It started back working while testing. Today I was showing my wife how to start the generator and manage loads during one of the 4 outages we had. She didn't hold it in start long enough and it shut down. When she restarted it the fuel gauge was dancing back and...

Best way to tell when power is restored?

Had several short outages today and the power back alarm failed on the last one. So far I can't find the receipt or proof of purchase so I may just have to eat it. Glad it didn't cost a lot.

    Finally joined the MEP-803A club...

Nicely done! Might as well hardware cloth over the wire boot since you didn't pass your wires through it.

Total Newb: 10KW Generator needed What am I looking for how do I find it.

A Lincoln 225 AC arc welder requires 50 amps at 230 volts, single phase. That's 11,500 watts. A MEP-803A 10KW unit may pull it off but it would be pushing it to the max. This is the largest single phase military genset to my knowledge. I am sure someone here has tried or used a 225 amp arc...

    Load Bank?

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT AN ELECTRICIAN! USE INFO AT YOUR OWN RISK! No neutral for 240 volt. I went ahead and connected the neutral and ground in the breaker panel and bonded the neutral buss in the panel. That way I don't have to keep connecting and disconnecting the ground strap in the...

    Load Bank?

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT AN ELECTRICIAN! USE INFO AT YOUR OWN RISK! I made a jumper wire with the quick disconnects. Line, jumper to other element, line. When properly wired in series you should measure 20 ohms across the two lines to your breaker switch.

    Auction Question

I was considering one on CL before I won the one I have. It was a 98 I think with 5000 + hours but had new batteries and fresh oil and filters. Seller was only asking $1800 for it and it was clean looking unit. He said he had not load tested it but it had power at the convenience outlet. Mine...

    Load Bank?

Since this thread has resurfaced I will link to what I finally did for my load bank using dryer elements. This made a fairly compact unit I can pick up and move as needed. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?163190-Homemade-Load-Bank Still if you have room you can use an electric range...

    Auction Question

All of the videos I've watched there make a point to pan to the oil pressure gauge as it's running so I don't think they are dumb enough to start a unit dry. That said cold oil pressure doesn't tell you much about what it would do warmed up and loaded. From all I've read on here and seen with...
