    My MEP-803A

I'm redoing it. Might do the other two over too. :)

    My MEP-803A

I haven't filled the barrels yet. I bought some Stanadyne Lubricity additive and some Killem Biocide to add when I do. I got the volt/amp meters in tonight and started on another adapter for the volt/hertz meter. Hoping to get it mounted straight this time. My biggest concern with this unit...

    My MEP-803A

The digital meters finally arrived from China. I did a quick adapter plate for the main volt/hertz meter and mounted it (crooked). Before investing the time in making the other mount I decided to hook the volt/amp meters to L1 and L3 to test and make sure they worked. They all work...

    MEP-803A 1 deg F / -17c cold start test and video

Man that unit looks like new. I should not need that Howes Diesel conditioner down here. Just had the wife pick up a bottle of FPPF 00119 KILLEM BIOCIDE to use in my storage drums though.

    My MEP-803a experience

Oh yeah! The chassis! Mine has a huge opening in the middle as well as the two under the battery trays. I was thinking I needed to figure a way to cover all those with hardware cloth or something. I will at least get a bag of mothballs to put in and under mine to keep the rodents out.

    My MEP-803a experience

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but the block drain is on the front of the engine under the water pump. A fellow member helped me find it by telling me to follow the hose that tees off the radiator drain. The easiest way I found to access it is to disconnect the battery, take the...

    MEP-803A battery size

Right would have been installing a battery that sits flat in the space provided but this is a manufacturer snafu. Not the Government.

    My MEP-803A

Performed a proper test of the auxiliary fuel system today. Siphoned a few gallons out and connected the auxiliary pump to a can and ran it till it shut off. Fuel level was just below the bottom of the filler hole when the pump shut off. Here are my 55 gallon cans I set up for auxiliary tanks...

    MEP-803A battery size

DOH! I didn't even think about using the tie downs to pull the 24s off the tab. At any rate, the 26 sits right in the hole without touching so I'm happy.

    Homemade Load Bank

My homemade load bank would produce 36,850 BTU with the two 5400W elements running. I could stick it in the window and plug it directly into the generator if all I needed was heat. :)

    MEP-803A battery size

This further illustrates my point. At least in comparison to a standard 34/78 case being the same as a 24. I didn't see any issue with height when I had the 24s installed. The only thing I can figure is the Optima design in the 34/78 size allows that unused mount tab on the engine to sit in...

    My MEP-803A

Revisiting a few issues and trying to refine things a bit. My fuel line replacement was short lived. The nylon hose I used on the small return lines loosened up and started leaking after it got warmed up. The tygon I replaced the 1/4" lines with was pretty limber feeling when it got warm so I...

    MEP-803A battery size

EDIT: The Value Power group26 batteries died in a year. See post #29. I switched to two lawn tractor batteries and they have been more reliable and a better value. I have some 270 cranking amp lawn tractor batteries in my John Deere, 99 Mustang, and my gate opener. They are a good value at 28...

    MEP-803A battery size

The 24s I used were marine cranking batteries and I don't have any terminal clearance issues. I just don't like having them leaned against the engine tab. I am at Walmart and the group 34 or 78 are pretty much the same case size. The 51 doesn't have a lot of cranking amps and they only stock it...

    MEP-803A battery size

I have read and looked and measured and can't figure out how the listed battery will fit in my 803A. The Optima Red Top 34/78 specifications are within a fraction of an inch of a group 24. The best I can measure in my unit the battery can be no more than 6" wide and not hit the unused mount tab...

    My MEP-803a experience

The oil and temp gauges have sending units that convert the pressure and temperature readings to a resistance value. The gauge reads based on the amount of resistance on the ground signal. A mechanical gauge has a capillary tube that regulates the gauge based on actual pressure or temperature.

    Homemade Load Bank

I searched several and the only ones I found that had a specification were 5400 watts. 5400W / 240V = 22.5A. 240V / 22.5A = 10.66 ohms. You can connect two elements in series to cut that in half. I checked one of these and it read 10.? ohms. Didn't pay it a lot of attention. Two of them in...

    Homemade Load Bank

These elements were $17.95 each shipped. I didn't think I wanted the thermal fuses in play to have them opening the current load if they got weak which they sometimes do. It's not something I'm going to use without close monitoring. The elements only had a dim glow with two of them running so...

Has anyone put casters on their 802 or 803?

I see no reason you couldn't just bolt casters to the skid as long as you have a solid surface to roll it on. I considered buying one of these to put mine on so I could roll it around the property. In one of the reviews a guy claims he put a spray tank and sprayer unit weighing 1300 lbs on one...

    Homemade Load Bank

No I don't. These elements came without the over temp thermal fuse kits so I didn't worry about it. I am powering the fan through the convenience outlet and I will make sure it's running before turning on any of the elements. I am switching them with breakers in case of a short. The thermal fuse...
