Infidel, I'll have to double check the emergency brake cable. The side that's locking up is the only original cable left. The other was replaced. But while I had the brakes apart replacing the wheel cylinder I don't recall the lever/cable being frozen or stuck. But to be fair I wasn't paying...
Yes, the shoes are in the correct positions. No leaking oil seals. I'll try swapping the parts side to side and see what if anything happens. I'm working all weekend so it may be a few days before I can do more than just swapping drums.
The hard lines for the rear are clear. I removed both and blew them out. I can't imagine if the flex line which feeds both rear wheels, were swollen or colapsing would only effect one wheel.
So my M1009 has developed a nasty habit of locking the right real wheel up while braking. This can happen under hard or even light braking on a dry surfaces. If I try to panic stop or stop short it'll do it every time. If I ease the brakes I can avoid it. But it's not normal style of driving to...
The truck I'm looking at is in southern NJ. I wanted to do the Habor freight setup with some homemade feet but I'm not sure if a trooper would complain about it because technically they're not rated for the weight of a M1008. I think 5k lbs max
Does anyone here in the Long Island, New York, New Jersey or Connecticut area have a medium towbar with adapters that I could perhaps rent, borrow or for sale for a CUCV? I'm probably going to look at another M1008 next weekend and if all is good I'll be flat towing it back home. Been looking...
There is a contact inside the windshield wiper transmission assembly. Looks very much like a set of ignition points. If they are dirty or fouled that can be a cause of the wipers not parking. This comes from my own personal expierence. There an be other issues as well.
Installed a new AC Delco mechanical fuel pump with new rubber fuel lines. Removed a broken starter bolt, replaced said broken bolt. Installed the correct gear reduction starter motor support bracket (for the 24v gear reduction starter my truck has) to eliminate any further bolt failures. Kudos...
That's a transformer. They are commonly used to step down voltage to different levels. The big grey/green/white cans on the power line poles in front of your/most homes do basically the same thing. Just on a larger scale. They can also be used in circuits to change AC power to DC.
I ran 8 bolt HMMWV wheels with the magnesium run flats for years. Until i replaced my M1008 with the M1009. Check my avatar pic. If the 8 bolts weren't limited to bias ply tires only. (because I never found a low pressure off road tread radial tire) I'd say it was the only way to go. 4 bolts, no...
Keep in mind the $1500+ your going to spend now trying to get better fuel economy is going to take years for you to actually see any benefit. If you were driving a rig cross country, all the time, this would make more sense. In that circumstance small gains make a big difference. On a local...
The TM's and google are your friend here. I searched TH400 shifting problems and the like. I found numerous topics discussing it. Reading in various forums, including this one. Various tips/methods in tracking down the problem. Just weed out the ones that don't seem credible. When you see the...
So I installed the new vacuum pump this morning. Tested the other vacuum lines with no leaks to report. Warmed the truck up. Adjusted the vaccuum valve as best I could to the TM specs and took it for a test drive. I'm pleased to report that it is a night and day difference. The truck shifts...
Finally found my Binders of TMs! According to TM 9-2320-289-20 I should see about 20 Hg coming out of the vacuum pump and then with proper adjustment a reading of 8 Hg out of the vacuum valve on the injector pump. Considering I couldn't even get that out of the vacuum pump I'm feeling a little...
Well, that's the next step. Once I have a reliable vacuum source then I'll move down the line. I did some quick tests and I didn't notice any alarming or noticeable leaks. But I won't rule that out.
So I had some time this morning to start testing on the truck. I started at the vacuum modulator. Pulled the line off, hooked it up to my Mighty Vac with the truck at a warm idle and got a reading of about 1-2 in lbs of vac, No beuno. So I then went directly to the source. Hooked up to the...
