I have been doing some research on the subject of using a military radio antenna for a common AM/FM car stereo. I see it is possible to do this with a commercially available CB antenna with simple adapters and coaxial cable. Is there any reason it won't work with a military whip antenna? I know...
Another option, if originality is not a concern. Is the metal plugs used in circuit breaker boxes/fuse panels. That's what came on my M1009 when I got it. I will however switch over to proper grommets when I get my Antenna set up. However there is no reason I couldn't continue using those also.
I went with a private sale my first few times. I wasn't ready to, nor did I have the resources to pick up or haul a truck back from a GL site. Being 2 CUCVs deep and Knowing why I know now. I would try a GL adventure.
Thanks for that explination, that will deffinitley make the job easier. Still, what does GR stand for in relation to the antenna bases and mast sections?
I like the no trim idea. Is there any difference between an AB-24 or an AB-24/GR or is the GR just most likely left off and they are all the same? I've found a few places that have them but they are all listed as Ab-24. No GR designation. I assume they are the same but I wouldn't put it past me...
Is that a AB-558 or AB-588? Will that base allow me to stow the antenna in the bowed position like the AB-15 and others. Looks pretty rigid from the pic I've seen. Or does the bend come from the antenna mast itself? As far as tuning the mast, I'm really only planning on using the CB for close...
I'm looking to do a CB with military antenna install on my M1009. From the research I have done. The AB-15 with MS-116 MS-117 MS-118 antenna sections seems to be the way to go. I have seen the antenna mounts and antenna bases on and off on auction sites. But I haven't seen antenna sections...
That was just for argument sake. It actually only takes a few minutes. No more than possibly 5 on a cold morning. I would rather be able to start it let it run for a minute while I ready myself. Take it easy till it gets some heat in it and go as normal. I know it's there for a reason. But it...
Of the two CUCV's I have owned, both a M1008 and my current M1009. Neither remained stock. However 95% of the modifications were or are reversible. For the very reason that although they are not super rare or valuable today. Someday they will be. I can swap out lift kits, axles and such...
Silly question, but if you simply unplug it. Will that prevent the truck from going into high idle and cold advance? Even if you depress the gas pedal to the floor before starting? I have to as I have a glow plug saver system the requires me to depress the pedal to ignite the glow plugs. I...
Nice looking truck, looking to do the same. However I won't be using lift blIckes and I plan on running 33x12.5x15s. Your military antenna setup confirms that I need one for my truck. Maybe even two, like its supposed to have.
I've purchased new replacements from Grangers. They don't look exactly the same. But the load limits were comparable. Much easier and faster then trying to find originals. That being said, when I see decent originals for a good price I pick them up. Always good for trades or spares.
I did this to my M1009 at the beginning of the summer. I use it as a stout 12 volt power source for my boat winch. In the future it will be utilized for other rear passenger compartment accessories.
I bought a license plate bracket/mount off amazon with a integrated light. Then mounted it to the rear bumper between the drivers side shackle and the trailer mount. A little tight, but it's up and out of the way for wheeling, doesn't block any blackout lights and is easily visible and...
Well I'm gonna try it. Small sections at a time. Anybody have recommendations on laying the pattern out? I've heard everything from chaulk, pencil to marker. But I hear they all show through the paint.
Twa@ezdn.net your truck looks great. I plan on doing it similar to yours. Although your brown looks a little darker than i would like. I have the TM patterns and plan on following them. Is that a 4" lift with 33x12.50 on your truck?
Those both look great, I do have rapco camo paint in spray cans. It's really down to mustering up the courage to start painting the truck and not beating myself up if it doesn't come out perfect.
I find the solid green on my truck terribly boring. Its just too much green, even for a military vehicle. My last truck was woodland 3 color camo and I'd like this one to be also. It looks as if most people are doing it with spray guns or air brushes. Now I could do it both ways I have the...
