Well here's one I haven't seen covered.... so I'll admit my ignorance once again!
I'm putting the final touches on my Jeep project... using quite a few Deuce parts. For a transfer case I'm using a divorced Ford NP205 which fits my Jeep-sized space requirements a bit better! I've found...
It's been a fun project for sure! But it's also been a test of fab skills, lateral thinking, and stress! :-D None of the components were originally meant to work together so I've had to really plan things out. Then stretching the tub and hard top was an adventure in and of itself. I always joke...
So it was too dark by the time I got home to get any decent pix of the engine/trans combo but... I do have some other pix to toss up. They are cell phone pix but I think they're good enough to get an idea of what's going on. I'm still fabbing bits and pieces so it's basically in a mock up stage...
Well geez! :-D It's kinda hard to snatch pix of my project while I'm at work! lol I just happened to have time to post up so I thought I would. I'll grab some pix tonight when I get home and I will post them up for you guys!! :-D
And I have to say that in all the forums I am a member of this is...
nhdiesel- I'd given a few of the details in a couple earlier threads of mine. It's a 1973 CJ5. The engine is an aluminum 3-53 from a Gama Goat. The trans is the Spicer. And the transfer case is a NP205. All of this is sitting in a frame that I designed which sits on top of a pair of 2.5 ton...
This is the 5 speed trans out of the Deuce. And although I'm not sure of the actual mounting in a Deuce situation- I know that in my hybrid/Jeep endevour that I really have no way of mounting it. The sides of the case are mostly a vertical plane with only a few curves or angles at the bottom or...
Howdy guys! I'm back with yet another question about the 3053A transmission. Up until this point I've had it bolted up to my Detroit (which is bolted to the frame with mounts) and for extra support, whilst I designed the mounts, the tail end was cradled on a ratchet strap slung between the frame...
Wow! Thanks for all the help guys!
My Detroit has the exact same bolt pattern as the bell of the Spicer, which makes things easier.
gringeltaube- That drawing did help immensely! I'd been looking for a cross section like that for quite a while before I finally asked my questions here. :oops...
Actually is was indeed the engine from the goat as well as industrial gen sets, steamrollers and other equipment. This engine is out of a goat so it has the aluminum block. Anywho. I'm actually not putting this combo in a Deuce. It's going in my 1973 CJ5. I'm using many Deuce components such as...
I'm assuming this is the right place to post this question seeing as though it'd be an alternative use for Deuce parts...
I've finally arrived at the point where I need to make an adapter for my Spicer 3053a Deuce trans. It'll go between the front of the bell housing and the engine. The bell...
Hmmm... yes I can definitely see where running it in a backwards mounted situation might prove to be a bad idea now!! And I have to say thanks guys- sometimes I just need to be able to see things to understand them, otherwise they just don't make sense. And it's a bit hard to get one of those...
Hey gents! I'm getting pretty excited now as I finally have the 2.5 ton Rocks, Spicer 3053a and PTO unit from a Deuce as well as several other goodies. Now it's time to start putting everything together. I've got a few questions which I can't seem to get an answer for on a few of the 4x4/Jeep...
Does anyone know off the top of their heads if there is a PTO unit for the Spicer? A bolt on for the side in which to power a mechanical winch? Called the only place I know of locally that may know (Sam Winer Moters) and the rep didn't know and couldn't find any info for me. Since I'd need the...
Okay guys here's one for ya... I've posted a few questions here and there over the past few months pertaining to my current project. I've got a 73 CJ5 that I've beefed up- going custom and fabbing up almost everything on it. Long story short I ended up getting my order screwed up with Advance...
Actually that was my main concern! I neglected to specify when I mentioned rubbing! I don't mind doing the work but I'm not sure about the rims and how they are set as far as backspacing. How deep are the standard rims??
And would you or anyone know which tires these might be?? They are...
Hi all! I've asked this over on a couple Jeep forums with no such luck so I'll submit my cannon fodder here! ;-)
I've got a 73 CJ5 that I am rebuilding from the ground up. Alot of mod and custom fab work going into it. It's got a DD 3-53 out of a Gama Goat and all kinds of other goodies. I am...
I realize I'm not asking about an actual salvage yard (I just don't know where else to put this! :? Any clues?? Google just yields a bunch of websites that have nothing to do with surplus stores- pretty much just stories and blog entries that also contain the words "Colorado" and "Wyoming"...
