neutral safety switch bearing stiff
So after I found and fixed the first problem of the retaining c clip on the shifter axle within the shifter housing the shifter was still not passing smoothly through Neutral....so i took it apart again an squirted a bit of Liquid Wrench onto the bearing...
1986 M998 4 man soft top. Goodyear MT/R (radials) with the 12 bolt rims and runflat donuts inside. I have assumed the TP 20 and TP 25 stamps on the fenders were meant for the old bias tires.
The -10 TM doesn't list a M998 so I did the chalk test.
35 psi Front and Rear left a nice chalk mark...
I removed the linkage and the transmission shifts perfect. I removed the shifter and pealed back the rubber boot and found the C clip that holds the "axle" inside the shifter was off causing the shifter axle to bind up. I squeezed the shifter walls together with some clamps to get the shifter...
1986 stock M998. My shifter has stopped moving into 1 and 2. It still moves from R to N to D so it's not a critical issue but I prefer starting in 1 and manually shifting to 2 then D to get the RPMs up (otherwise the trans shifts too quickly to drive...).
This has randomly happened over the...
I am not sure that N1228 alternator you bought on ebay has the same flange offset and shaft size/length as the HMMWV alternator N1225 since the N1228 appears to be for a different vehicle. I tried looking at ceniehoff.com but I couldn't find info on the N1228. Call niehoff and find out before...
The step by step installation instructions and schematic diagrams should have been included with the upgrade kit...just keep all the small parts organized and in the plastic bags until the are needed...the 200 amp alternator is very heavy and it is recommend to use a hoist to lower it in place...
I typically do not use the steering wheel lock...keeping my Humvee where I parked it is my primary goal. I have the soft doors off most of the time so it's wide open when i park it. Making sure no one starts it is a close second. And I just liked the hood lock idea.
Hello all -
My 1986 Humvee project is running great after a bunch of work that it needed when I got it...and thank you for the input and answers I found on this site as well as the specific replies to my questions.
Here are some cheap options to secure your Humvee when parked...
I installed a...
so I believe the answer is here:
http://www.ceniehoff.com/Documents/Ctrl_Hyperlink/TG0019A_uid12172009217332.pdf
But deciphering that terminology and those schematics is beyond me....
I have searched google and here with no definite answer....so thanks in advance for your input.
I have a 1986 M998 and just finished installing a dual voltage 210 Amp Niehoff 1387 alternator (it has the 3225 Regulator).
I currently just have the 14v tap on the alternator grounded to the...
I bought a challenged 1986 M998 in July. I have installed a new 210 amp Niehoff dual volt alternator N1387 Alternatorwith N3225 Regulator(with 200 amp conversion kit)(was 60 amp), cleaned all major electrical connections, added new grounding harness, Nartron Smart Start System (with new yellow...
well that unlabeled wire must be the 5A since everything is working perfectly now! It sure is nice to wrench and have the outcome work as planned... I am still confused how the output wire from the 60 amp alternator becomes the IGN wire when the 200 amp alternator conversion is done. I would...
My install is complete...but before I hook up the batteries and test the system I would like to get some confirmation from the experts.
My wire 5A has no label...middle of the photo...above the large red boot...it has red heat shrink on it and it is attached to the IGN on the regulator and...
install going smoothly
Thank you for the replies. I was skeptical about installing this 210 amp generator with the 200 conversion kit, but after these replies (and calling Niehoff and having them confirm it "should" be compatible) I decided to go for it. The install has gone smoothly so...
I purchased a 1986 M998 in August....it had a melted 60 amp generator (and several other gremlins)...so after much reading here it made sense to get the 200 amp dual volt 2920-01-420-9968 / 12447109 and the conversion kit 57K3520...I found both cheap on ebay so I thought I would take the ebay...
