How tight do you tighten that right angle connector on to the stem? Hand tight, or more? I tightened one a little too much and drove the internal o-ring onto the threads of the stem (where Schroeder valve goes). The o- ring was damaged. It is supposed to seat on the smooth end of the stem...
The brake treadle valve (foot pedal) can get dirt in it, leak out that vent you describe up under the center grill, and dump air to zero.
There's a thread on that problem. I will try to fine it unless someone beats me to it.
Edit:. This thread is good...
This heavy rubber gasket was found in the back of an LMTV when I got it. I had not seen one before. Is this a common item? Maybe it was used with the turret, not the cover? Hard to tell scale but it's over 4 ft in diameter, as is the turret port.
Has anyone else run across one of these...
Aleigh, are you referring to the big air dryer near the 'wet' tank? If not, which filters are you meaning? For the big air dryer, the desiccant packs and coalescing filter kit is readily available (like 'minor kit' part number R60 at Finditparts) and not much work to change out. But, be sure...
You are not missing anything in concept. Trailers like that often have skirts hanging down too, another opportunity to remove them and shorten the height, I say go for it. You will probably find drains, tank dumps, etc hanging down that you might have to work around.
The trailer mentioned...
I'm going to play devil's advocate here. He cranks for upwards of 40 seconds, sure, but after the first 10 seconds or so the engine is trying to start. With one, then two, then more cylinders firing the starter is not running at full load but with just enough energy to keep the engine turning...
Keep in mind that no air is needed to set the parking brakes. If all the air leaks out anywhere, the brakes should set. So do you hear the air dump when you pull the yellow knob? If the air dumps and brakes still do not engage then there's a mechanical problem (the wedges are not being...
This Cat parts store is local to me and has been very helpful getting parts at good savings.

They buy up excess inventories of Cat stuff for resale. Nice people too.
Its a closed system, based on what I think you are asking. If the valve for the subsystem you are dismantling, like the tire lift, is closed, no oil will leak out except that in the hoses and cylinder of that subsystem. Plugging is still a good idea so a misplaced valve position does not dump...
The newest Permatex sealant I read good things about is called "the right stuff". That's the Permatex name for it. I have bought a pack of it but not gotten around to fixing my oil pan leak yet. I got product number 99070 two pack with applicator gun.
Aren't you guys being a little dramatic about imminent catastrophic failure? Sure there will be lots of oil splashing around in the crank case, and pouring out the vent, and smoking, and mess, but burning bearings? Seals, maybe, but the PCV system is pretty much wide open to releasing...
The original air dryer can easily be serviced. Basic service is to unscrew the bottom plate, drop out the old desiccant pack and coalescing filter, and replace both. Kits: Haldex RN-60A, available such places as Finditparts for $42 more or less.
If the problem is air leaking from the hydraulic control valve body that might be good news. I think there is only one valve on the hydraulic control that has air and that's the one you push and hold to activate the air to hydraulic pump up behind the hydraulic control. All the other circuits...
I have found that same situation on two LMTVs, the frame side batteries associated with 24v were bad. The other two batteries, associated with 12vdc, were still good.
Here's what I think is happening: The FMTVs run a 12v system and a 24v system, both referenced to ground. The dual alternator...
Please remember you are driving an empty 5ton truck with tires aired up to handle maximum load. IMHO you will never get those tires to run smooth even after high cost of balancing. The issue is probably out-of-round tires, not specifically balance. They are all out of balance, CTIS and all...
