Tigertank did say 'used' oil. There's a huge difference between adding 'aged' motor oil or adding 'used' motor oil. The first would have no impurities and latter does, in abundance.
An engine might run great with used oil added. But why add oil that was taken out of an engine with 10...
I hope this is the final chapter in the blown seal saga. Today was warm and sunny (a rarity this winter) and I was determined to find the vent on the front axle. Following the hoses again it became obvious I had jumped the track on earlier tracing of the hose, and this time I found the vent...
If you don't find any other problems, check your alternator belt. After setting a few days, and a startup, there will be attempted heavy charging to top up the batteries. If the belt is a little loose it can slip and alt output will be too low to show on the meter. A few seconds of charging...
What's wrong with letting the tranny downshift and let the engine stay at the best torque and efficiency rpm? I am totally satisfied with my 3116 and 7 speed. But, I am used to the acceleration of an Unimog.....nuf said. An automatic is happiest and more long-lived when not...
Toymogger,
The grinding of the PTO when it goes into gear is typical but does give you a way to 'test' clutch function. The PTO gearing and shifting is not synchronized, but other gears are. If you press in the clutch, go into 1st (or any other) gear, then try the PTO. If the PTO shifts with...
You have received some great suggestions. There's an old mechanics saying concerning vehicles in general, something about if you push a vehicle beyond what it is accustomed to doing, it will break. For this reason, I agree with AZK9 that backroads might be better. If you hit the interstate...
Toymogger,
Congrats on the new SEE. Great trucks! About your clutch trouble, these clutch discs can stick to the flywheel or pressure plate, but in that case the clutch does not DISconnect when you push the petal. You would have power through to the front part of the transmission all the time...
Hi Tim292stro, are you referring to an RFR-105 antenna on which the datasheet is based? Interesting antenna. Very wideband as you said. I'd like to get my hands on one for some testing.
It could work fine for a wideband scanner or even ham transceiver. Looks 'right' on an MV too. I was...
A pair of the AS-3900 antennas would do the job for you. They make great dummy antennas, electrically and visually! You can search on "AS-3900 antenna", then click 'images' and see everything you need to know about their parts and pieces, in pictures.
Hey Mike, thanks for sharing! I had an SP-600 for a while and it was, indeed, a nice receiver. The R-390A probably out performed it but the dial tuning on the SP-600 was SO smooth.
I am also a fan of the PRC-74 transceivers and would probably have snatched that one up LOL.

A 2 meter version, gray face, 4 crystal version, on loan, was the radio I made my first 2m contacts on. Still can recall the excitement of operating such a "modern" and expensive radio back then. I was earning $0.90 an hour and paying $12 a week for room and board. I could not even think...
It's not so bad to get to. Remove dashboard screws, tilt the top of the dash toward you and look down behind it. With a flashlight you can just make out where the cable from the foot petal terminates and mechanical linkage takes over. The goal is to dribble oil down the center wire of the...
IMHO when you say 'explore' and 'remote' you should not have a trailer behind you. Taking any trailer onto an unknown remote trail would get complicated when you can't turn around.
There's no reason a truck-mounted camper can't be built to go anywhere the truck can go, if you can use a pop-up...
That says a lot! The transmission split the torque and kept both ends pulling. Bet that was a tense time until you hit harder ground! (Can't imagine one of these things buried.)
Ditto the suggestion of SAND mode. I have been in soft earth like that here on the farm and the LMTV did just...
Found this info PDF on the Haldex website:
[edit: see post 4 this thread]
Great info for understanding what goes on in their air dryers as used on the later FMTV's.

Great, so your CTIS works! The more you use it, the better you will know if it ceases to work. Pay attention to how it sounds when you start the truck, and how it sounds at the 15 minute checks, and soon you won't care that the lights don't work! Some day someone will figure out what the...
