    FMTV Fuel tank ?

WoW! Wish I had gotten a deal like that :-) Bob

    FMTV Fuel tank ?

Concerning balancing the load, not an issue IMHO. The other side of the truck has the big batteries, the drop-box of the transmission, both drive shafts, and both diffs. There's so much excess capacity on the LMTV, why worry. Adding the extra two tank support brackets does require drilling...

    FMTV Fuel tank ?

Randy, a good way to add fuel capacity is to add another FMTV fuel tank. There is an interference issue with the front spring hanger but that's easily resolved by cutting out the corner of the tank and welding in a plug. There is no liner in the tank, and it's a simple aluminum TIG weld. This...

    FMTV High Speed Gears

Does anyone happen to know the tooth count on the ring and pinion that yields the 3.07 ratio? Thanks

    My truck shocked me!!

24 volts will make itself known, especially if you are a bit sweaty. You really didn't give many clues that would aid us to assist you.

Are there any high mileage FMTVs?

LMTV722, great video! That one lead to these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irUwErlR5OU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2My5C4EWKM#t=536.440083 Both those videos include basic PCMS, driving techniques, and great comparisons to the older Deuce and a half and Five ton trucks.

    Is this a investment ?

Logic for your wife (works on mine!): These trucks triple in value the instant you buy them!! If you don't believe that, watch GP sales prices compared to the offers for sale here and elsewhere LOL Bob

Are there any high mileage FMTVs?

Most FMTV's sold on GP have no more than 15k to 20k miles. Many have less than 10k miles. Has anyone seen a high mileage FMTV? What about those still in service (question for you active-duty guys/gals)? You know where this is going: Is an FMTV capable of achieving high mileage, hundreds of...

Found something unexpected in my LMTV today

My LMTV had a resident mouse when I got it. It lived in the space between the floor and subfloor of the cab. I have a shop cat. She brings in the mice as toys! Had to leave the hoods open on the Unimogs to keep them out.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

My truck has one of those battery test gizmos too. Looks like the probe is intended to touch the electrolyte and light up to confirm level is ok. No touch: add fluid. (applicable to flooded cells only, obviously). Bob

Adapting 419 SEE To Drive Other Attachments Thread

Check your manual for output specs on your hydraulic system. You may find it is not 32 gpm. With hydraulics that's not a show stopper because lower flow can still do the job. You should verify the hydraulic output of the SEE/419 and match the motor to that output. You probably won't get 43...

Adapting 419 SEE To Drive Other Attachments Thread

Could add hydraulic-driven PTO off the existing hydraulic pump: http://www.surpluscenter.com/Hydraulics/Hydraulic-Motors/Ag-PTO-Output-Hydraulic-Motors/ I have added hydraulic winch to a 406 by adding a hydraulic motor to drive PTO winch (10k Braden off deuce). If you fabricate a drawbar and...

saving military communications gear at hamfests

Hey Mike, great report. That RF-301 is a radio I'd like to have sometime, even if they do top out at 15 MHz. It would be fine for a net operation I check into daily on 40m, with no tuning around! Many years ago I bought the antenna tuner, RF-302, and it is a fine tuner. Built extremely...

    Dualmatic Hub Lubrication

This is from memory from a set of Dualmatics on my old M38. Have to remove the hub bolts. Unlock the hub with the toggle bars, pull the whole hub flange straight out. The bars that protrude through the outer housing pull out with the cover. Grease those bars and the 'star' flange they...

FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

I have been offroad with that SEE. It does perform ok but only after it had a lot of work done on it. He winched me up a long muddy slope at Wind Rock. Those Michelin XM-47 tires easily went where my XL's could not. Perfect tires for mud and snow (and even good on the highway). On the...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Sounds to me you got the right truck! A bent driveshaft on these trucks could lead to other problems (based on the havoc original shafts caused). Any miles spent driving an LMTV (or your other favorite vehicle) adds time to your life!

Static Display at Smoky Mountain Air Show

Knoxville Airport and the adjoining Air base hosted an air show this past weekend. Several of us from Knoxville Military Vehicle Club set up on Thursday and participated all weekend. Great fun doing the static display but the air show was fantastic, Blue Angels and all.

    Hub Removal/Replace

Normal hubs? Well, that was an exciting thread.

    Hub Removal/Replace

Hey George, you could still find another truck to buy :-) NOT having to change out all four hubs and build a bed is worth a lot of $$$$, IMHO.

    Hub Removal/Replace

No doubt you are correct. What is your engine rpm at full throttle? Speed at that rpm? Whatever the rpm, at WOT and max speed of 55 for a normal truck, Georges will be at 110 theoretically. If your truck is going 40 at 1800, then 55 mph would be 2475, calculated. Is that close? thanks
