I might take you up on that. I'm still running a couple of the old style pumps, which seem to work just fine. Especially when you don't need to use them.
Yeah, I would've been very happy with getting two years out of those drum brakes. But two weeks was pretty dismal, and when all we 'wheeled in was mud there was no reason to expect any improvement. Adding insult to injury, they were inboard drums, so not easily removed for cleaning, either...
Looks like the Pirate's opinion about those straps hasn't changed much since we used to cuss them over a cold beer (sometimes two) at the Little Sluice, back in the day.
I can't see the tab for the cup in the second photo, so it's hard to tell what the real widths of those yokes are.
And it would take an awful lot of abuse to tweak a yoke, even if banging it against rocks. Having a U-joint let go is the only way I can remember seeing a yoke get damaged. But it...
Huh? If I understand this correctly, you must've had the wrong size U-joint in the OE yoke.
The attachments don't work, but when you say that the aftermarket straps "are not exactly formed yet to the new U-joint" it sounds like you still have a mismatch.
I've never had an application where the...
Hey, glad to learn that you got it working well again!
And it looks like you've taken after General Hood, making things nice and shiny. Time for some floor mats to protect that nice floor.
It's kinda funny how there's been more tire talk than in recent memory on the "regular thread", and yet it took days for this one to get going. Okay, to get a second post.
Anyway, after having had the privilege to witness first hand the procedures and equipment used for tire testing at the Yuma...
I had to wait for about three months once before the GP rep was available for a pickup. But as long as it's really GP that's holding things up, they can't charge you storage fees.
You have a patient shipper, it sounds like.
Napa should be able to get you a drum of AW-32, and if you order online...
Just in case someone happens to be travelling this route, or reasonably close, in the very near future. And also happens to be pulling a trailer with 20 feet of space and 16,000 lbs. of capacity.
Subconsciously inspired by you, perhaps, the other day I took the doghouse off on my SHEE, since the throttle felt overly stiff and did hang up once or twice shortly after getting it.
After doing nothing more than spraying some lithium grease on all pivots points in the linkage, it loosened up...
Or...he jiggled the blackout switch and the horn, wiper, lights, and everything else, suddenly started working.
Which gave him a cardiac arrest. Let's hope not.
I don't think it makes much difference whether you overload a bias or a radial, except that the bias tire will inherently build more heat due to the conformability of the tread and the thicker carcass. And it's often heat that causes tire failures.
I would've gone with ag tires, had I only found...
Finding a tire with sufficient load rating can be a problem. The Super Swampers and Pitbulls I use are rated a bit lower than the Michelins, which are already overloaded.
And with those tires at 40-45 psi (80 max) they're nowhere near their rated capacity.
Of course, I'm not likely to drive down...
Test lights were on back order? HF Voltmeter was dead on arrival (I've had that happen)? Unexpected visit by relatives?
There could be all kinds of reasons for not following through...or following the wiring.
I think Couch has run the 39.5x16.50-20LT Pitbull Rockers (which is what I have on the SHEE) on stock wheels without any issues.
Spec rim is 13 inches, and they're only 15.70 inches wide in real life on those wheels.
Hmm. And there's even a spare. Guess the front hydraulic tank would have to go in order to fit it, though, and then some.
But I think I'll pass. But they'd be perfect for Bison, come to think of it. At over 100 inches in diameter those tires should make his HMMH run almost as fast as he'd like...
Considering the "excellent" aerodynamics of a Suburban of that era, that's almost surprising. Until remembering that air resistance goes up by the square.
Being a lead foot, I'm all too familiar with that phenomena.
Congratulations of having it all (nearly) sorted.
