Using my SEE for real work

So it was you that bought what I hoped would be my parts SEE. Oh, well, you're welcome anyway.

    Turbo for M1008

Hey, I peruse these pages in an effort to learn. But I have yet to learn not to answer the same old questions. I am getting better at it, though. Steel Soldiers in general is sooo much better than a sports cars forum I used to frequent. There it wasn't uncommon to read "Help, my left headlight...

    Turbo for M1008

I put a Banks unit on an '85 Suburban, later also on my M1009, and it made a world of difference. Whatever setup you decide to use, I highly doubt that you'll regret it.

General Hood, there is another option for driving posts with your SEE. Push them down with the bucket. Although I fully understand why you don't like that method...it does scratch the paint on the bottom of the bucket.

At least mine has black wheels, too.

Need help figuring out these 10 issues I have with my 404s

First it was peakbagger, earlier today on a different thread, now you, swiss. Both of you seem to insinuate that it's somehow more important to make a vehicle mechanically sound before testing its limits and making it look purdy. What's up with that? It's not particularly entertaining, I think...

    Unimog axle part ID

Aw, c'mon peakbagger. Are you suggesting that it would be better to first inspect/change fluids, grease Zerks, etc., than to fire up your new purchase and see what it can do? That could remove the very real possibility of getting a more intimate knowledge of the inner workings of our machines.

Leaking Transfer Case - Best Kits for Repair

The easiest is probably to take a magnet to the case. 205s are not aluminum. Or, look at photos of the two and compare to what yours look like. 205s also came with skid plates, and have been filled with ATF, so those are not good methods for finding out/guessing which kind it is.

Cold air intake ideas? HX40 turbo.

As I recall, those factory inlets are way outside the radiator area, so there shouldn't be any interference unless you mount the charge air cooler partially in an air dead zone.

Since they say that you're only as old as you feel, I could be your grandchild, General Hood.

Wow, that sounds neat. I hope you get that working right, patent it, and make enough money to pay for getting rid of those Unimog parts.

You should've kept that 272, from the sounds of it. And the Duster...which is likely worth 10 times what you sold it for. Okay, so I'm used to air operated brake valves, and you are now the proud owner of similar looking hydraulic ones, but infinitely more complex. Surely there must be a...

    Unimog axle part ID

Hey, that's some interesting stuff you have pictured there. What the heck is it for?!? Okay, the treadle valves I'm familiar with, but those hydraulic(?) gizmos. I have a 727 in my Postal Jeep, of all things. It was actually factory, behind 232 Sixes. Now there's a 300 transfer case behind it...

Hey, don't knock the PowerGlide. They're the choice of drag racers now. But it surprises me that an SS could come with a six banger. Okay, not really. Few things surprise me anymore. Well, except for me surprising myself, frequently.

A flood of SSs, huh? If they're '70 Chevelles I'm in. Even if they have electronics.
