    Top Speed for unmodified CUCV?

There's an app for that. It's situated on the right side of the steering column.

Have you tried using a better towbar on it? (Sorry, couldn't resist).

Yep, 107 is probably about right. warm to the touch, but not hot. Sure sounds like what peakbagger describes; temp came up, switch closed, fan(s) or wiring is unhappy, fuse blows and drops the idle to normal. I guess you didn't try the fans with external power first?

Indeed, those old GPSs are great for speedo duty. Unlike my flip phone.

And glossy. If we can use glossy, then General Hood might take interest in this thread, too.

Need help figuring out these 10 issues I have with my 404s

For number 15, I'd get a jack from HF. Especially when they have a 20% off, which is pretty much all the time. Number 19: Don't you already have two good 12 Volt sources, aka batteries? See, I was gracious. Sort of.

    1008 stock replacement front springs

Uh, oh. Now we've entered the world between GVW and GAWR.

    Top Speed for unmodified CUCV?

Two assumptions there. One, is the speedo accurate? Two, is what those new folks are saying accurate? My "sustained" top speed in a stock CUCV is usually about four to six mph these days. They rarely get to see high range, or pavement. While it can be more fun to drive a slow car fast than a...

    1008 stock replacement front springs

But if the springs weren't rated at 4,500 lbs., then the front wouldn't be rated at 4,500, would it? It seems to me that it's the weakest link the determines the weight rating. For example, if I installed 3/4-ton springs on my 1008, it would no longer have a 4,500 lb. rating, even though the...

It wasn't Godzilla, but when GP gets a new forklift driver they usually let them practice on SEEs. Eventually they get really good at operating the forklift, which is why we see such gingerly treated SEEs offered for sale.

    1986 M1009 - Fuel problem/Injection pump maybe?

Yep, tape does. But I have several applications of liquid electrical tape that are holding up fine after a few decades.

    1986 M1009 - Fuel problem/Injection pump maybe?

Okay, I'll bite. So shrink tubing and liquid electrical tape are "temporary fixes". But not having any insulation (although not needed in this case) for six years is....a permanent solution? As a frequent user of shrink tubing and liquid electrical tape, I don't get it, sorry.

    1008 stock replacement front springs

You and me both. But I'm posting this photo so that I won't have to go look again, just to be sure. Or Google it again. Now all I have to do is find this post the next time the front load capacity comes up, which seems to be often.

    1008 stock replacement front springs

Well, since there are two springs holding the front up, per spring that takes it down to 2,250. Just going by the data plates on the CUCVs I have, and the official GM numbers.

    1008 stock replacement front springs

I should stay out of these spring topics. Last time I got the K-10 and K-30 mixed up, this time the spring rate and load capacity. If I look it up again I'll probably goof up again, but according to my notes the K-30 has a 4,500-lb. load capacity in the front.

Leaking Transfer Case - Best Kits for Repair

I hope you don't mean that the transfer case seals had anything to do with vibration. Except for ruining the mounts at the transfer case.

Springs with a 4,501 lb./in. rating would give you just a little over stock.

    Smallest tire on HMMWV rims??

Unsprung weight is bad, rotating mass is really bad. I wouldn't run a heavier wheel than necessary. But that's just me. I also prefer larger diameter tires over lifted suspensions since the latter does nothing for ground clearance.

Using my SEE for real work

I may have to have a talk with your wife. She just might take my side.
