I haven't seen data on those trucks.....
But the FMTV can reverse in low range (well "mode" anyway), and I'm sure the military got a big hard on for replacing the 939 with it's safety record and accident fatalities.... and constantly buying transfer cases because no one reads the warning on the...
With the proper tools, knowledge, and manuals/schematics plus help from the community they are excellent trucks. The A1 and up trucks are statistically THE MOST RELIABLE vehicles the US military has ever owned. And not by a little bit either - by HUGE amounts. Even the A0 trucks were 4x more...
Time to invest in some tools.....
Seriously LMTV's do require caretaking and they don't always breakdown at home - in fact if used as this one is designed I would say it's highly likely that any breakdowns will be FAR from home. Best to know the truck and the best means to know it is to work on...
These vehicles are not really conducive to those who are not prepared to work on them themselves. Hiring it done (for the most part) is a very expensive proposition and then when you get where the vehicle is more than capable of taking you and something goes afoul you will be ill-prepared to...
On the later trucks they put Nord Lock washers on all the compressor support bracket bolts to keep them from loosening. Seems to do the job. They were plenty tough to get loose when I had to take it apart to replace the compressor so I don't see them backing out.
If it's a 3116 truck there's...
I understand better now. So the Detroit locker will work. Got it.
Now it's just a matter of figuring out the ring and pinion. Can I use the R&P from an intermediate MRAP axle in my high pinion axle?
Rick
I've done some searches here on the forum but I haven't found any discussions about this......
So my A1R has the high-pinion rear axle. Basically the intermediate axle from the MTV with the output blocked off.
So if I get a complete 3.07 intermediate third member...... don't those have some...
I haven't noticed any power loss.... but then when it's under boost I can't hear the compressor so..... for the price of them it's probably worth just replacing it if I'm taking it apart to inspect.
On my A1R the compressor is fed air from the manifold which is after the turbo and intercooler. Don't know if this was a change to the A1 or the A1R but definitely the compressor is post turbo.
Part of the problem is I'm not sure exactly what the valve does - it seems to be there to shut off the inlet port during a purge signal from the governor. I'm not entirely clear on the mechanics of why blocking off the inlet to the dryer during a purge is desirable..... the compressor is already...
I have serviced the dryer cartridge on my truck.
In my reading and travels I come across this "turbo protection valve".
I can't find much in the way of information related to this.
The usual scumbags and others list this part...
Yeah the prices have gone up. Even just since the 1st of the new year. I figured this was going to happen with everything going on in the world so I ordered all my components in December and total price shipped was $3,994 for literally everything - I spent another $160 on a hose crimper and I'll...
The gen 2 FMTV unit is rated at 33,300 BTU's according to Tom at Waterloo Specialties:
https://www.lmtvtrucks.com/AC/index.html
He must be experiencing quite a high demand since the gen 2's are temporarily out of stock along with several other components.
The stock system (or at least the...
Tom is a member here and has all the parts. You only need to make up your hoses:
There may be a wait on some items. Get them while you can before summer. I have almost everything and Tom has been great to work with. Good prices too if you compare to what others are asking...
On my A1R I had to replace all the weatherstripping around the latch as this was rotten and allowing the latch to move and not actuate the rods properly.
My locksmith noted that the locks used in the A1 doors are common travel trailer locks. Not at all very secure. Just FYI.
First things first - disconnect each battery and test it's voltage. If one is not 12.6v+ then charge them and test again. Then test again after they sit disconnected for a day.
A weak/dying/dead battery will cause all kinds of havoc with the system.
Also what are your LED's on your regulator...
No clue on that one..... You might need to find a forum dealing with trucks that commonly use the AD-9 dryer (from manufacture I mean). Unfortunately there are as many dryer models out there as there are stars in the sky it seems and I don't know of any military applications so not likely to get...
