    AC Compressor Mounting Bracket Plans

Government pays about $600 for the voltage regulator on my 260a A1R truck. Midwest Military Equipment wants $950 for the same part from Niehoff. So who is the criminal here?

    AC Compressor Mounting Bracket Plans

Eh.... not really. If you had to buy every part of an AC system for a 15 year old civilian vehicle from the dealership - probably would be about the same. At my shop we do a fair number of AC compressors for example and when they are purchased from the dealer they tend to run about $650...

    AC Compressor Mounting Bracket Plans

The mount he sells does include the idler. I ordered around the end of November and had it within about 4 weeks. Wiring harness was the longest wait - just got it last week. But that's the last piece. As we get closer to warm weather and surplus dwindles the wait times will likely increase and...

    Shelter/van body mounting options

I considered a lot of different options and came to the conclusion that buying a 1079 or 1087 was the most economically viable and solid engineering option. For cargo handling I'll be looking for a 1084. Gives you all the space, all the weight, and the crane to get things in and out of the...

    LMTV Air Conditioner

I ordered it a while back at end of November along with all the other parts and that's the last piece I am waiting for you to send me. I've got the pulley and a new fan installed already and started working on the condenser. I can't wait to drive it with AC this summer! Rick

    AC Compressor Mounting Bracket Plans

Are we sure about having that much weight and belt tension pulling on the gear case? I know cracked gear cases happen when the air compressor/PS pump engine block support bracket bolts work loose from vibration. Just curious if there is precedent for CAT using similar mounting configurations.

    LMTV Air Conditioner

Sweet! That's all I'm waiting for is the wiring! Rick

    Its finally here!

Definitely carefully inspect that PDP board. They are known for solder cracks and mouse pee doesn't do anything nice to solder or electrical connections. You will want to pull it (carefully document where everything goes) anyway to check the wiring under there and especially the ground point on...

    M1078A1 “warmup” switch popping C/B

Retard only engages the PAC brake when you are driving and you lift off the throttle...... the Warmup mode engages it at idle. You are supposed to use it in cold weather in conjunction with the fast idle and it is stated explicitly to NOT DRIVE while it's in use...

    M1078A1 “warmup” switch popping C/B

You have the Retard/Off/Warmup switch for the PAC brake I take it? Just a guess - PAC brake solenoid shorted?

    M1078 hard shift

My 2008 A1R with the gen 4 Allison shifts quite nicely with (what I assume to be original) 15w40 in it. And the fluid is so clean I have to look hard to even see it on the dipstick. Wiping it on my finger it literally looks like it's brand new right out of the bottle. Truck has 6500 original...

    The two golden lumps arrived.

Alex Wilson? Do you have a link? I would love to discuss with someone that's done it or is familiar with the guts on these. They are really uncommon in the civilian side is what I'm finding out. Very similar to the intermediate 6x6 axle but without the element that locks the center to the rear...

    The two golden lumps arrived.

Thanks for the encouragement! I might give it a shot. I'm just not looking forward to how long it's going to take my truck off the road while I "figure it out". LoL. Rick

    The two golden lumps arrived.

Hey! I'm down in Portland and I have a 2008 A1R with a high-pinion rear axle. Would you be interested in installing 3.07 gears in it? For the front I can just get a third member so that's no problem but the rear..... I've done a few R&P setups on Dana 60's and GM corporate units, etc but nothing...

M1078 to M1079 Conversion and Build

Sadly mine has the small windows (2 on each side) and so the wall plates were mounted flush to the wall like the floor and provided no such advantage for me. So they gone. Along with that ridiculously oversized breaker panel and next I'm removing the shore power connection box. At most I will...

M1078 to M1079 Conversion and Build

Nice. I just pulled up all the steel plating on my floor and walls - about 650 lbs of 6" x 1/2" steel plating. Nice weight reduction. That takes my box down to about 2700 lbs. Gives me a bunch of ready made mounting points as well.

    2008 A1R with 260a charging questions

There's a listing in the Oregon DMV database for the "Stewart and Stevenson 1078/1079," under RV's - Sean Filner got that added after a wrangle with the DMV and his lawyer and it took a while to get that sorted out but he finally did...... Unfortunately my 2008 truck is NOT a Stewart and...

    LMTV M1078 - Weight Capacities

The pintle on my truck is stamped 100,000 lbs. Assuming you have working trailer brakes - the truck is designed such that any of the FMTV models is supposed to be able to flat tow any of the other FMTV models. Which puts the capacity way above 12k lbs. For flat towing with trailer brakes that...

    2008 A1R with 260a charging questions

Nope. I have Utah plates. Screw Oregon - they don't want my money then I'll give it to Utah.

    M1078 Mechanic needed- Utah

Respectfully - if that's how you need to operate then the LMTV is probably not for your application. If no one will service it and you need someone to service it..... You see my point? Looking KÜHL and being practical may be mutually exclusive in this case. Perhaps another Sprinter...
