Hi
Obvious, but possibly overlooked, without power steering a smaller diameter steering wheel will make it hard to turn. While driving on the road this probably will not be noticed, but off road it might be noticeable. Also remember to check the cross section of the steering wheel will it be...
Hi
I always like the Nimitz photo with the civilian tires on the Jeep. There is another image in a war time ad of a jeep strapped down a submarine deck while it is under water.
Cheers Phil
While I understrand the need to support SteelSoldiers this idea has problems
While, the need to pay for hosting maintaining Steel Soldiers is a priority, I'm afraid the adding of ads to the leading post in all threads will have unintended consequences. Examine the first ad that I encountered as...
Problem with formatting
Hi
Between 8AM on October 1st and 7PM how new posts appear has suddenly change from normal width text to narrow display of only a few words per line.
Anybody else having this problem?
Cheers Phil
This post shows up on my tablet as being 4 to 5 words per line once I...
Ah yes, slow controlled pull of a big winch, while a snatch strap is a quick way to pull a stuck vehicle out, when a little gentle pull is going to do the job, a big winch is better when something is really stuck.
Amazing what parts either method can pull off a vehicle.
Cheers Phil
Flatbed scanner to copy gaskets
Hi
I have had very good luck using a flatbed scanner to make and store gaskets for my MVs. Couple of tricks/tips from doing this over the last 15 or so years.
Of course you are limited to the size of your scanner and printer.
Set the resolution of the...
Hi
Not sure I understand the problem, are you saying the tires are leaning (toward the vehicle) in at the top? Or that the tires lean out at the top?
A little positive camber (tilt out at the top) is normal in most vehicles. But I'd start by making sure what you are seeing is not caused by...
Important point
Hi
You make, to me, a very important point, don't Rev the engine to get the oil pressure up quicker. I hate it when I hear engines racing as they start.
It doesn't matter to me if it's a Unimog or a Honda Civic, let the oil get around to all the bearings and start flowing...
Hi
Interesting idea, but from a practical consideration as a retro-fit, how about adding cooling fins and improving air flow. Might not just improving the heat sink to draw the heat away from generator body with air instead of tubing carring fluid accomplish your goal of getting the body of...
Hi
Just out curiosity have you checked if that engine is used in civilian equipment, I'm thinking tractors.
Know that some of the smaller Hercules engine were used in tractors, when looking for parts military application no luck when looking for tractor parts for the same engine they are...
Welcome aboard to the wonderful world of Odd MVs
Hello To the Grenadiers Welcome to the world of Odd MVs, owning a uncommon vehicle is great fun, you always get to stand out. Drive and enjoy, from New Hampshire. Cheers Phil
Hi
Thanks for adding the details, with that extra info the game can begin. I've got a 4 channel Tektronix Scope, so the current clamp was the key. Think this will lead to some interesting playing with engine on test stand. First thought is to put current on one channel and voltage on another...
Don't worry a lot of us have the Tee Shirt "Been there, done that"
For me it's running out of fuel with the fuel gage reading the right tank and the fuel selector valve on the left.
Cheers Phil
Hi Martin
Very interesting post, interested in the current probe you used, in the test. Can you give us a little more information on it?
Wonder why this approach would not work on any multiple cylinder engine. With a little more information I'd like to try it on the gas engines on my 3...
Hi
Sorry you had problems at the Rally I was the one making the annoucments over the PA asking if anybody had a pump. Now to a question about the "One was the fuel pump failed-however that was probably a secondary issue to the initial problem-as an electric fuel pump failed to solve the first...
