Cloud, You are welcome without the MV, but we all love to see what everyone has/brings.
I know the virus has put a downer on this year, but we are still planning the event.
Without the Parade this year, I think having more of a swap meet, etc. might be a good thing.
I think it really boils down to how you plan on using it.
If it were me, I would add in some heavy C Channel under the bolt holes to box it in and run the bolts all the way through.
I have stretched out bolt holes on winch plates on some of my trailers before with a 9,000 lb winch. I have also...
How thick is that channel?
Honestly, what you have is probably just fine. I just like to build stuff way overkill and never think about it again.
Never under estimate the torsional strength of a winch, and how much it can twist/warp steel under a load.
Anything you can add to better resist the...
Bumping it back up so people see that we are STILL ON!
The Parade will most likely not be a part of it this year, but that doesn't mean that should stop us!
Yeah, stop and go when you are slipping the main clutch and creating heat. Not really going to create any real heat any other time with this transmission.
Well, I know there are people who would be curious to see what the temps would be without the cooler.
And yeah, there are plenty of other places to run a cooler for these.
And the transmission is super efficient, I think it would only really get hot if you are abusing the oil in the main clutch...
With the 16.00 tires and a 80K-ish gross, I never really saw my trans temp climb on my M920.
I know that is a big stupid cooler, but I hate losing something that valuable. I think you could probably run a much smaller cooler is still have great results and be confident in it not over heating?
Yeah, any extra braking on these trucks is always a good thing.
And I will use my M920 for any big hauls, but the M818 is still more maneuverable in tight places.
Ok, two and three is better than one and three.
And I definitely like the look you have on the switch, no arguements there!
Btw, really nice job getting these in under the hood. I can see other people doing this now! I know if I get back around to messing with my M818, I will copy what you have...
Why only High and Low? Why not medium to have two working?
I know in my M920, and other commercial semi tractor and wrecker trucks, I would use the different settings for different grades. Makes it nice to have a little more control,
I like how this puts the batteries out of the way for most things, especially with a dual tank/winch/drop axle combo.
But they look like it would make working on that side of the motor a PITA.
Even pulling the batts still leaves that box to pull for better access.
Still, I will think on this, I...
Thanks Wes!
I looked at but hadn't measured to see if the straps would interchange.
I was also thinking of moving the tank forward some as well. But I need to watch how the steps line up for climbing into the passenger side of the truck.
On my extra tank, they cut the strap bolts, so I need to...
Yeah, that was about how I planned on routing the exhaust, and it should have room to put the batteries right off the side of the winch mount. Maybe an air tank on top of that as well.
I was looking at adding something there, but I would need to put the tank on, and figure out the routing on the exhaust as well.
The drop axle and all 5 air tanks make this a more difficult job on the 920 compared to the 915 and 916. But I know it can be done.
I am also thinking about just...
