Jeep...I didn't really mean grease per say...it's a clear substance that is supposed to prevent battery terminal corrosion. I got it at Auto Zone. I'll have to get to Napa and check that stuff out. The wiring in my truck wasn't exactly what I was expecting to find while reading the schematic. I...
Jeep you are right about the dumb factor. cbvet, My son an I just finished installing two new 6TLs the previous week. We cleaned, greased, and tightened the terminals. Ran great. I'm doing this in a garden apartment parking lot. So far, my neighbors have been great. They call me GI Joe. I can't...
digger, jeep, o1951 (I'm a 1953 model year myself) you guys pump me up! I found that taking off the air cleaner assembly makes it all easier to get to. ****! I just got finished putting in a new whistler turbo two months ago. Brutus was running sweeter than a brand new Toyota. Was driving him to...
Thanks Jeep. Well, I went out and tested my mag starter and starter solenoid contacts for continuity with my meter today. They both read open as they should. I'm really going to have to put my thinking cap on. At present, I'm charging the batteries and thinking about getting some new cables...
Thanks for the thought Jeep, but no. The start button/switch tested ok. I think either the magnetic starter or the starter solenoid contacts were closed when they should have been open. I will also be checking the two start button wires to make sure they are not shorted together in the harness...
The start switch checks out fine. I now suspect that either the magnetic start relay or starter solenoid contacts, both of which should be normally open, are closed. I hope to check this out on 9/7/2013 when I'm off.
Great news Shannon! You put a lot of work into it. I just replaced my batteries and belts too only to have something go wrong and cause a dead short to my new batteries. Looks like I have my work cut out for me. Enjoy your truck!
I will definitely be looking at the harness. I have to take half the dash apart to get at the master switch. Good luck with the big tires. There are a lot of hills in NJ, so I limited myself to 43" diameter T-831s dualled out back. Didn't want to sap my hill climbing ability too much. I have a...
Over 100 and humid I bet. Sounds brutal! Stay hydrated. Hope your hubs flipped okay. You must be singling your truck out. Are you going with large tires?
Thanks Digger. I was thinking the same. I just came back from reading the batteries and got 25.3 volts across the terminals. I hope my new batteries are still good. I had installed a new start switch about a half year ago. I guess one wire is connected to the master switch and the other goes to...
Last week my son and I installed two new 6TL batteries in my truck. Yesterday, I installed three new fan belts. I decided to drive my bobber to Home Depot. Then something odd happened when I climbed in the truck to drive back home. When I turned on the master switch the engine started without my...
Welcome and good luck! Great folks here on SS. I get fist pumps, smiles, and I once noticed a woman laughing heartily from across an intersection as I wound Brutus through the gears. I almost always get in a conversation with someone whenever I stop.
Disconnect and look for water under the turn signal flasher military connector. That caused me a problem. I remounted it on the firewall to keep it drier.
I like it. Light but strong construction. I've always thought about fabbing a bomb hoist for my bobber or converting it to a light duty wrecker/winch truck. How does your truck pull with the tall tires in 4th and 5th? Are grades a problem?
Check your transfer case handle too. Mine moves down from high range into neutral with very little effort. I found that out one day when I let out the clutch and went nowhere slow. I get about a 50/50 mix concerning other drivers. Some will cut me off or turn in front of me at intersections...
Great Deuce day. My son Dano "The big man" came over to help me install two new Napa batteries in Brutus. We cleaned. De-rusted. Painted. Got it right. Brutus fired right up. We went on a beer and food run. I drove out. Dano drove us back. I call any day with Brutus and my boy Dan the Man a good...
Thanks nosajb. I think I'm going to add an additional 1/2 quart. I have a long, flexible filler tube that makes it easy to do from the master cylinder reservoir door. My transmission does shift better with the engine oil. Although, first up today is new batteries and fan belts.
