Its a valid concern. I'm in the hills of NoGa, not too far from the start of the Appalachian Trail. the back roads down here have a bout the same grade and switch backs that you see in Pennsy and West Virginia.
You may have read my posting about how quick mine came around on a sharp right...
Or part it out.
Rock crawlers and mudders are still buying them front and rear axles.
Bobbers buy the front springs.
Hard Top on the junker?
Just about everything under the hood can be sold.
And scrap what you can't sell.
You could get one for free ... and maybe even make enough money to...

Cuttin' oil and sharp drill bits are your friend!
I did the whole job on my truck by hand using cutting oil and an old Milwaukee aluminum case 1/2" drill ... probably 20 years old than I am. Max rpm? 560.
With a good sharp bit and a couple drops of cutting oil that old drill just...
Looking good!!!
I was torn over singles or duals in the rear. I went for singles and flipped the hubs in the end.
Are you going to keep yours in camo?

The military Manual you want is TM 9-2320-209-14&P. You can down load it free at: XM381
More notably however, in that thread there is a post by Mike in which he discusses crossing over Mil Part Numbers to civilian...
+1.
On the way to school I had a car dive in front of me and nail the brakes because they weren't paying attention to the exits ... The Mother Duck stopped just like it supposed to ... decent stopping distance and no pull.
I was pretty impressed that the Duck didn't get as flustered as I was...
I know it ain't glamorous but ...
If I had the spare cash ... and I had to make a brake line anyoldways ....
I would think about a brake up-grade to 2 circuits.
Even though I got new brakes ... I got a penny jar started for my up-grade.
Although its already been suggested ...
A muffler...

The Mary Kay Ladies strike again!
My only intendt was to welcome a nube and give him a couple of pointers.
I meant no sarcasm AND I have only stated facts.
1) There are folks that consider themselves "OLD SALTS" here.
2) Some of the "OLD SALTS" have named among their pet peeves...
Hey Jake ...
Welcome aboard.
Somebody already mentioned that you should use the "search" function . Think of this place like it was a BIG ol' library. You can't even begin to imagine how much info you can find here by using the search.
Also look on the regular Deuce forum too.

I'm not certain that a 2 stage pump is what's needed.
At this point I've spoken with a couple of pump guys and told them what performance/specifications I'm looking for.
If you go here ... and go to the bottom of the page ... there is a gear pump that it strong and reliable. I'm told by a...
Over the weekend I got in touch with Hypro about the pump you mentioned.
They tell me this pump is NOT self-priming and although its REAL close to doing the job at hand ... they recommend that a positive displacement gear pump is a better idea ... and they referred me to their sister company...
The MKL's will tell me "If you want economy ... stop being a whiney Nube ... buy a Honda."
I don't WANT a Honda and I ain't whining or complaining.
I want the utility of this truck ... AND I want the BEST performance that it can deliver.
This mod, combined with an ETG maybe a good cheap SAFE...
Its ALL food for thought ... and a good group effort
Like they say ... if you put a million monkeys in a room with a pump and a barrel of WMO for a million years ... rofl
You are out in front of me with this one FOR SURE ... so I'm ALL EARS (which is kinda tough for a deaf guy)!
My working parameters are:
1) I want to be able to pick up WMO in the field. My thinking is that would mean 24 VDC (or gasoline engine) operation. I would MUCH prefer a 24 VDC pump...
I don't know a lot about pumps ... but my thinking is a pressure relief valve sufficient to allow enough pressure to push oil through the filter ... and return the excess to the source would take care of that.
Its another thing I'm looking into.
