I got a hair over 12 - 1/2 inches from weld to weld. If I'm reading what you want right. From the front diff, you have the u-joint than a small shaft, then a rubber boot. Then there is a weld with a longer shaft to another weld, then a u-joint and another u-joint to the transfer.

Turn down the fuel and see if it solves the problem. You might be getting to much fuel. Its a starting place.2cents
