I'm not sure you can use the gauge as an accurate assessment of the tank level. When a tank is completely full, at least on my gauge, the marker gauge measures well past the last full point mark on the gauge.
I use Valvoline Transmission fluid and Mobil Delvac 1300 15W-40 engine oil. Reasonably priced and change it frequently. M1008. Diesels will turn any motor oil dark rather quickly from my experience.
It says it is an original G.M. part. I haven't seen any aftermarket parts for that one. If you need it, buy it. They are hard to find. Crazy money. I don't think the fast idle solenoid is the source of your fuel leak problem.

You're losing your fuel prime as you stated. Get a flashlight and look closely at all your return fuel line hoses. If you find any wet return fuel lines, replace them. Check all your fuel lines and replace any that are old, rotted, or leaking. Check in the valley under your manifold for any wet...
Buy a Temco Hammer Battery Crimping Tool on Amazon For $20 bucks. It crimps from 8 AWG up to 4/0 AWG. Buy the 3/8'' copper lug rings and the right size lugs for the size wire your using, it is a very basic job that you will enjoy doing.
I would personally recommend the military-style battery connectors. So when you have to remove your battery connections, you don't have to take it off the battery post every time. Much better.
