1/2" ratchet is way to much leverage.use a short 5/8 wrench,snug em ,if it leaks, loosen them and turn the cover, and snug em down again. it works for me :driver:

the thing is if you get buried bad and someone pulls on that piece of chain real hard you could pull you're frame horns in towards the center,and that would not be good.
you want the winch uncovered while you're driving so the wind will blow thru the cable .i put an old washtub under mine and pure my old motor oil over it,at least twice a year.the cables been on there for 3 years and looks brand new.and it was used when i put it on.just make sure you always park...

i went to a crane place and asked if they had any old cable around., they have to replace the cables on the cranes after so many hours of use.the guy took me out to the old stuff and said take you're pick.good looking stuff and i took two spools. about 500 feet. :driver:
