If you have an 8.3 struggling at 50* there are bigger problems. Like fuel bleeding back. At that temp mine doesn't even need a full revolution to start.
It's not the "speed" so much. It's operating in mixed dry and slippery conditions (which I'm guessing it was based on going 55?). If it's was all slippery road the whole time, then it was justtime for parts to wear out. You fixed one problem and found the next weak spot.

I finally tried to fire up my H81. Fan blows, pump coupling is intact and turning, spark at the ignition but no fuel pressure ( I just put 5 gallons in so I don't think it's out of fuel). Really could have used some heat. Guess I'll have to mess with it another time. Work travel calls now.
