I would like to say thanks to everyones feedback on this issue. I shall remove the dowel and go forth. The install won't be until spring, I'll report the results then.
I need to measure the bore of the trans and snout of the case. I know my GM stuff is a close tolerance fit. I will compare these and see. I know the 208 and 241 swap and this trans had the 241 so I'm hopeful.
Greetings folks, in my quest for an NV4500, I now have a Dodge NP208. It should bolt to the back of the NV but there's a problem. It not only has the 6 bolts, it has a registering dowel too. The trans isn't drilled for that. None of my GM 208 transfer cases have that nor does the Dodge NP241...
There should be a cast saddle that sits atop the spring pack that has an area for the ubolts to register. Many times the used ones are cracked. Sorry, I don't have any to take a pic of.
I am patiently waiting for the 27SI alts to check out. When they do I'm switching my mounts over to the ambulance style of mounts so that I can run readily available Leece Neville alternators. Most folks try to steer away from anything M1010 as far as charging system but the "Plan B" mods done...
Here are my notes I've compliled. I do have the Dodge gas version. I'm also aware of the 5th gear issue, I need to educate myself a little more on that. This trans and adapter plate were more/less a gift from Microjeep. I think it will be perfect for my truck with 4.10 cogs.
NV4500 12.375"...
That's what I'm figuring. The truck tows very little, barely has enough power to hurt itself so the 4500 should be okay. As long as I keep everything tight, the 241 should survive as well. I haven't measured the length difference but either way, I'll mothball the original driveshafts in case the...
It's only a 241. Generous Motors used them too. The joy of the Dodge case is the fact that it has a fixed rear yoke. Can run without the rear driveshaft.
I agree. Fortunately, the transmission being New Venture Gear is only part Dodge. Since New Process made the case, I guess it's close enough...
Finally, found a NP 241 out of an 80s Dodge. Should be here Saturday. This should bolt right on to my NV4500. This is a Dodge gasser version which only requires an inexpensive plate adapter to fit the bell housing in my SECM. Come spring I'll remove the SM465 and install the NV4500. I think the...
