Well folks,
I'll be leaving early Saturday morning with the M62A1 to go pick up my M813A1 I bought back late last year.
I'll be running down I-40 to US 321,then to I-85 to I-485 to I-77 south.
Pics and maybe video will be posted Sat evening.
I have 9 ea M135/M34 wheels, most of the tires are junk, but the wheels are in decent shape, $40 ea if you take the tires,$50 each if I have to take them off beforehand.
Nothing really to update on the guntruck itself, just a few weekend repairs to the M62A1 wrecker so I can transport the M813A1 home that has the donor bed for the guntruck build.
Just a few pictures of yours truly pulling wheels to repack bearings and rebuild wheel cylinders on the wrecker...
Definetly standard M44 series rockwell type axles, although built by Timken.
The wheels are the early combat rims off a M34 deuce, most likely they have 1100X 20 tires on them.
As far as what they are worth,no clue, although they are rare( don't scrap em,somebody will want them).
Neil,Adam and myself did something similar in 2010,except they had us out front next to the main entrance.
Adam's M818 even made it onto ESPN!!
I may be able to bring The Justifier,if it's done by then.
I've been using Shell Rotella for years in almost everything, even the gasser trucks I have owned.
I buy it from Sams Club in 55 gallon drums, lasts me about 2 years worth of oil changes.
Basically yes,I'm not using grid square overlay of the pictures or anything, just were certain parts line up with on the original pictures of the Justifier itself.
Most if not all information about the individual Guntruck is provided by Veterans that either helped build,or crewed the trucks...
I finally got the exhaust finished and installed this evening.I added 2 supports for the exhaust pipe that were not on the original Justifier, but the manifold would probably crack under the weight.
For historical accuracy, everything is being stick welded or brazed vs using a wire welder.
a few...
Nothing much to update from this weekends work,I didn't like how the exhaust turned out,so I took it back off and re-welded it.
It looked and fit much better afterwards, now all that is left is to fabricate 2 supports to attach the exhaust to the fender supports.
I also did a little "tweaking"...
Single supply and 2 from the tank with no returns?
Must be for a gasser, all multis with dual tanks had a transfer pump and the Macks had the same as the 800 series.
Being a crane operator myself, plus having owned and operated both a M816,and a M62A1 I gotta agree with Ron,
I almost turned my M816 over on level ground, the ONLY thing that saved me was a LARGE tree that the wrecker bed fell against on the way over.
The military wreckers are way overbuilt...
Interesting read Ron,I guess if the 250 in the 813A1 frees up after getting it here,I'll be doing the dual feed line modification as well as changing the button in the pump.
I actually did the throttle shaft screw modification on the M816 when I had it,it perked up,but it still seemed lacking...
Well the winch cable will probably be the LAST thing I buy, since I have 3 5 tons that need winch cable(total of 800 feet).
I plan to use 5/8 in 6X19 EIPS wire core rope, the manual calls for fiber core, but that seems to be special order at most cable dealers anymore.
Last price I got was about...
Not much to update this weekend,I had to cut and split wood for heat this weekend.
I did get the winch installed as well as the exhaust roughly installed in place to mock up the exhaust hangers as well as the connection to the turbo outlet flange.
I also got the door hinge pins/door armor...
I will probably come down on Saturday morning,I don't know what I'll drive yet, maybe the M51A1 dump.
I seriously doubt the guntruck will be done by then.
