Turboing a 6.2l build (another one)

The two other books very important to turbocharging..

Turboing a 6.2l build (another one)

The usual scumbags delivered, correctly too..both needed for project twin VNT. The author of the book is a local chap, quite affable too. While the book is 23 years old, most applies. I met him 12 years ago..might need to pique his talents on this on. Head studs are a must, still on the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Ordered a 28MT starter from the usual scumbags, only because my 10% employee discount. Also ARP head stud kit and starter bolts. I have the bracket and keeping the 27MT as a spare.

    Starter bolt issues (again)

Flex plate run out can over stress bolts. Stretches them, then they are loose and soon to fail. Check bolt torque a week after install. If loose, you need shimming. If the bolts are ever found loose, Check clearance and always replace the bolts. Check ring gear to pinion clearance on a full...

    Rust is the enemy!

Careful, water vapor can adsorb on the interior surfaces of empty cans. Baking the EMPTY cans at 250°F will remove this water. Most metals and metal oxides have strong water attraction. Even glass has this property. Splitting a gallon is good if done carefully. POR welds used cans shut...

    Rust is the enemy!

POR cures from exposure to humidity. It has a high surface tenacity and creeps behind the rust. Where it finds water, binds it and then cures. If you get the smallest bit of water in the can, it will set fast. Fuel and oil won't touch it, UV degrades it fast so top coat once cured.

    Arduino 4L80e controller

Just go with a 6X if six speed is a must. It is a bit closer range but is better suited for the torque of a 6.2 diesel. 2650 RPM at 70 MPH is all I feel comfortable in a 35 year old vehicle. Yes, that is on the high side of torque peak but it's far better than stock in the brake specific fuel...

    Rust is the enemy!

Lap seams can trap moisture, causing accelerated rusting. If you must lap, be sure to seal it well on the inside. I match cut, fit up for minimum gap and use short interrupted back stitch welds. Take time to avoid heat buildup. And practice on scraps to adjust settings for full penetration

    Arduino 4L80e controller

The transmission and engine work together. Since the 6l80 shifts clutch to clutch without overrunning sprags, engine power is reduced between shifts. The transmission control module requires input from the engine control module AND the TCM requests reduced torque during the handoff. Just a...

    Arduino 4L80e controller

6L80 is a totally different beast. Its reliability is from integration of the engine and transmission to work together by reducing torque during shifts. The 4L80 is much tougher because it has to shift under full engine torque. The 6L80 might survive with a stock 6.2 but any mods.. If 6...

Turboing a 6.2l build (another one)

Since this is a topic on turbochargers, a little terminology and info should be handy here. I've heard a few complaints on turbochargers with regards to this engine family. Namely turbo lag..which in all accounts is the wrong term. Most turbo systems are designed around a free floating or...

Turboing a 6.2l build (another one)

My twin turbo variable nozzle Frankenstein project is a go, found the rare compressor map for the selected turbos. Looks like a combined 30 pounds mass of air at 15 PSI gauge and 72% efficiency so no need for intercooler. Stock, the engine theoretically gulps 400 cubic feet of air at 3600 RPM...

    Rust is the enemy!

Prep n Etch , a brand of phosphoric acid, from a pump up sprayer. Let it work until almost dry, then pressure wash. Repeat until bare. It is a good fertilizer so don't worry. Once clean, then POR over the flash rust..roller or brush. Top coat with frame paint. This cleans off the grease...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

On my 1031, I moved the compressor to above the generator making a platform from square steel tube. I can sleep left of the generator. What I want to do is make a plywood base for a tent on the roof.

    4 years and a month.. ;)

Why is this unplugged and why does my truck run better without it?

Timing and throttle position are adjusted with this circuit when engine is cool. If base timing is overly advanced, this could be an issue.

Cracked a TH400 case and support brackets with a NP205

Is this a problem with 4L80s? I plan on using the same cross member, all new mounts with a cast aluminum adapter from Advance Adapters.. Stock 1031 with PTO.

    grey wire

Seat belt actuators are inertial. Pure mechanical. There are seat belt warning sensors, wires to these are black and white.

    Fuel issues

Noticed that. Inventory dropped by 1. Realize it is shipped by the vendor, that being whybee adventure. Good ratings. But the trip over the pond is 11 dollars. Won't get the VAT hit and no tarrriff on automotive tools so if you can wait, should be kosher.

    Fuel issues

Sealey TL95. 168 doll hairs plus change from the usual scumbags. That is a UK brand. And this is an E-dapter kit which makes a gasamoline timing light chooch on a die easel. So you might needs to run down to Hazard Fraught and plop twenty clams on one of them. Sure beets a Fap Off over...
