    NiCd battery for starting

There are a number of reasons why I'm going with the nicads, here is a set of specifications. Note the "unlimited" storage time "regardless of state of charge". Note: -22°F is -30°C not 30. Having to discharge the cells to zero ("flatten" them) now and then is a small price to pay. There is a...

    NiCd battery for starting

Charging is only a bit time consuming the first time around since I have to put 30 or more AHs into them (the cells were completely discharged when installed). They will only be used for starting and will replenish quickly after each start..within minutes actually.

    NiCd battery for starting

Been working on this off and on for about a year, simply tired of the problems with lead acid batteries, poor cold weather performance, trickle charging, maintainers that fail not to mention poor contact burning battery studs etc. Yesterday I started the truck on the LA's and charged the nicads...

    Unimog photos

Most people think the "mog" is small, the 1300 isn't, shown here with the deuce.

Long Term Storage Stability of Bio-Blended Diesel B5 B10

For long term storage of biofuels, perhaps the individual ingredients for making biodiesel will last longer. I have WVO that's going on 5 years that's still not rancid and still good to use as is or for biodiesel. Not aware of long term storage problem for methanol or sodium hydroxide.

    Bounce bounce?

Not as big as the 14.00's, but I run my single 1100-20 NDCC tires at 70 psi on the highway, including the cross country trips and never had a problem. Low tire pressure and soft radial sidewalls may not go well together either...

    Precise RPM control

He sent me a PM and his help is much appreciated.

    Precise RPM control

Don't know about being much lighter, a 19-cell 24 volt NiCd battery weighs 83 lb (BB-693A) with an AH capacity of 30.

    Precise RPM control

The number one reason is the speed of recharge, compare less than an hour to several hours at best for LA types and I wanted to use the full capability of the 100 amp generator on the truck. I'm replacing the 80 amp gauge seen in the images above with an 150-amp meter, since the generator...

    Precise RPM control

Not the deuce, but could be. The 8x8 is equipped with two fuel burning heaters and if they run on the start batteries without the engine then they would not be able to crank it after some time, so the idea of "house" batteries came to be. Since I wanted to be able to run the batteries down...

    Precise RPM control

Oh, anything over 1,000 rpm, I suppose, but wanted something near 1,200, which wasn't to noisy and the ratchet on the throttle control was either 900 or 1,400-1,500...like I said no biggie. When the Nicads need to be recharged, I run the engine 30 to 45 minutes and the 2-1/2KW initial load is...

Long Term Storage Stability of Bio-Blended Diesel B5 B10

I have used homemade (unwashed) biodiesel in my deuce that's several years old without a problem. The fuel is kept in a cool basement.

    Bounce bounce?

Off hand, I'd say it has to do with "unsprung" weight, not easily damped...

    Precise RPM control

In order to set an accurate RPM while charging batteries, I cut a tent rope tensioner into a spacer to jam under the "Throttle" control grip. Without it, the RPM was either to high or too low. No biggie, just thought it may be useful in general. Ideally a throttle control with vernier control...

    Slow vehicle safety

Current draw is less than 1 amp for the buzzer. You can use 1N4003, for example. I think I have used the 1N5400 series also, they are 3 amps and gives you a little safety margin.

    Fan idea..still needs work

Lowered the nozzle/deflector assys and the fan is now doing its job without taking up windshield space. Feels like the cooling effect from a small fan, except using outside air. :-) If not mentioned before, the exhaust from the fuel burning heater must be uncovered (I usually have it covered to...
