First ride in truck today- Did not turn out good

Be sure to skim through the Common Issues / Fixes document here in my signature. Many new owners come into the forums with the same problems, asking the same questions. You can get a jump on what you need to know by reading it.

    M1079 check those hubs!

I would quantify "warmer" by getting an IR thermometer and checking (e.g. before, during, after trip). Mine don't get that hot (I don't remember exactly, but like 115°F, with good Royal Purple synthetic oil in them), and they only vary about +/- 7°F

First ride in truck today- Did not turn out good

You're only real bet is to clean it off and run it. Anything else is just guessing, and you're going to get 100 different opinions. These trucks have a ton of fluid capacity, so you can lose quite a bit before it hurts anything. A small amount also makes a huge mess, so it's hard to tell how...

    Internet diagnostics

A lot of this info (e.g. cracked front housings, loose air compressor brackets, drive shaft vibrations, etc.) is in my troubleshooting doc in my signature. The nut he's referring to is the one on the front of the gear of the air compressor. With the front cover off it is accessible. The...

    Internet diagnostics

I also posted this above, as an edit, but wanted to make sure you saw it... "Leaking engine oil, transmission oil (if not converted to ATF), power steering fluid, and diesel all look fairly similar. The original military fluid in the cab lift hydraulic system is red, but I get the impression...

    Internet diagnostics

No, there isn't, and even the offline fix is a pain in the rear end (have to take all the stuff off the front of the engine). I wouldn't get too worked up about that being the cause yet, though. While your leak seems (from a couple poor photos) to be in a similar spot as you would get from a...

    Internet diagnostics

These trucks have large quantities of fluids in them. You can make quite a mess with a rather small quantity of fluid, so it can be tough to use "which one is low?" as a troubleshooting method. When I cracked a transmission cooler line, there was transmission fluid everywhere on the rear lower...

    Internet diagnostics

From the first picture, it looks like it is higher up. There is liquid pooled on that metal line on the air compressor / power steering pump, so it's at least that high or higher. That eliminates transmission. There are a bunch of potential culprits in that air compressor / power steering...

    CTIS and Arduino

I don't understand what you're wanting to do with PWM. You're controlling simple solenoid valves and stuff... turn them on to fill, turn them off to stop, take a pressure reading. We're not trying to communicate to anything, or control positioners, or anything fancy. Can you elaborate on...

    CTIS and Arduino

Building a microcontroller replacement should be doable. Nothing about the system is overly complicated (e.g. no digital communications to decipher). That said, replacements are easy to find - they're all over eBay and other online sites.

LMTV Alternator Disaster, engine now catastophic

I'm not sure who "Jack" is, but that is poor reasoning. Yes, the government applied an upgrade to the all of the trucks in the late '90s, and yet we're seeing these problems so it clearly isn't a permanent fix. We have several users, including this thread and myself, that have destroyed their...

M1078 A0 change inner door handle

The door handles are a standard 7/16" round shaft with 16 splines. You can find a lot of handles that will fit it, but I'm not sure how many will have a protruding nose that will fit down inside the door panel. I don't plan to use them, but I bought these out of curiosity to see if they fit...

    M1078 Transmission cooler

My transmission doesn't seem to run it's best until it has thoroughly warmed up to 200°F (been at that temp for a little while, so all the parts have reached that, not just where the sensor is). I wouldn't want it to run cooler than that (e.g. 160°F).

    Nato plug charging???

I mounted a NOCO Gen4 to the side of my battery box. It connects to each battery individually (permanently) and tends and charges them. Awesome piece of equipment. https://no.co/gen4

    Greaseable polyurethane sway bar bushings

I've never been able to personally see it, but a number of MTV owners have bought them and it is my understanding that they do fit. 2" diameter bar.
