Replace it, But you will have to put the pickup tube on the inside of it. Not sure if the A2's are the same as the A1"s,
But the pickup tube is soldered to the 90 degree part on the inside of the tank.
If your getting air out when you remove the vent, it is not working right. I would replace them out a a central vent system ti all the axles. Here is a thread about them.

Here in AZ I am always looking for them. I know they are there someplace, Do not put yours hands and feet were you can not see.
